If you’ve been keeping tabs on the Stanford mess, then you already know. It’s been a straight-up dumpster fire on The Farm. Four straight 3-9 seasons, a toxic culture scandal that booted HC Troy Taylor, and now they’ve got Frank Reich trying to hold it together on an interim basis. And with the players flooding the transfer portal, it’s like open season on Cardinal talent. So while Stanford is picking up pieces, Kalani Sitake might be cashing in big time.

BYU is hosting a pair of elite transfers this weekend. You’ve probably heard whispers, but here’s the fact. Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel’s report on X on May 2, the Bachmeier brothers—one a dual-threat QB, the other a breakout receiver—are set to step foot in Provo for a visit. “Sources: Former Stanford QB Bear Bachmeier and WR Tiger Bachmeier are visiting BYU. There’s an expectation the brothers want to play together. Bear was a highly regarded recruit with Michigan, Oregon and Notre Dame offers. Tiger caught 46 b—s in two seasons at Stanford.” Yes, Bear and Tiger Bachmeier, two highly coveted brothers.

Bear Bachmeier is the kind of QB Aaron Roderick dreams about having in his offense. He’s not just a former 4-star QB; he’s got both the arms and the legs. He already has multiple offers, including powerhouses like Georgia, Miami, Oregon, Notre Dame, and more. His sophomore numbers are insane—he completed 73% of his passes for 2,853 yards and 26 TDs. He also added 644 yards and 18 scores with his legs, averaging 350 total yards per game. He’s efficient and electric. And his older brother isn’t far behind.

Tiger Bachmeier is a former Pac-12 freshman standout at receiver. The most proven receiver at Stanford, they say. As a true freshman in 2023, he led his conference rookies with 409 receiving yards and also played as a kick and punt returner. In his two seasons as a Cardinal, he caught 46 passes for 476 yards and two TDs, also adding a TD on the ground and a punt return score. He would be the perfect fit for Keelan Marion, who bolted to Miami this spring. The Bachmeier brothers could instantly fill BYU’s biggest portal needs at QB and WR as the Cougars gear up for a big season in the Big 12.

BYU is making big offseason moves

Sitting atop the Big 12, BYU led the conference in 2024 with an 11-2 overall record after snagging a 36-14 win against Colorado at the Alamo Bowl. Finishing strong only gives more reason for Kalani Sitake and co. to build a winning roster for the upcoming season. And they’re already winning with another heavyweight addition in the trenches. Oklahoma State DL Justin Kirkland committed to BYU on Thursday with two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6’3, 335-pounder out of Roy, Utah, brings Power Five experience, a relentless motor, and some serious muscle to a front that’s in need of reinforcements. The guy started his career at Utah Tech, played every 26 games the past two seasons at OKST, and posted a strong 70.8 overall grade with 18 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and a sack in 2024. Now he’s coming home, and he’s not coming alone.

Have an interesting take?

He’ll team up with fellow transfer Keanu Tanuvasa to reshape BYU’s defensive interior. The Cougars also landed two more expected starters on TE Carsen Ryan and OL Andrew Gentry. The Cougars already boast nine transfers so far. If Kalani Sitake locks in the Bachmeier brothers this weekend, this could be one of the best portal hauls BYU’s had in years.
