The award for the finest CFB player in the country has been given out since 1935. The contest champion this year will be announced in NYC on Saturday. After more than 900 votes, the top 4 vote-getters are selected as finalists. The voting panel is made up of media representatives and previous Heisman champions. One player will be crowned HEI2MAN based on votes, but how many Boise State players will be on that voting panel? It just shows the number of Heisman finalists Boise State has produced before Ashton Jeanty.

There have been two Heisman Trophy finalists from Boise State in its history. First up was quarterback Kellen Moore, who came in fourth place in the 2010 voting. Secondly, Ashton Jeanty, a running back, was selected as a finalist for the 2024 Heisman Trophy, which is the first time a Boise State athlete has been granted this accolade since Moore. Moore placed 4th in 2010 behind Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, Stanford QB Andrew Luck, and Oregon running back LaMichael James.

Kellen Moore got 40, 165, and 185 votes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively; that’s 390 points total. Moore was recognized as one of the best college football players of that season thanks to his performance, which included passing for 3,506 yards and 33 touchdowns.

Safe to say, this is the sixth consecutive year that four Heisman contenders have appeared. Bringing four finalists to NYC annually for the Heisman Trophy weekend was officially announced by the Heisman Trophy Trust in 2021. Formally, the Heisman Trophy Trust began bringing candidates to NYC in 1982.

Still up for debate, though, is Ashton Jeanty’s Heisman-winning probability. In comparison to the other three on the Top-4 list, can he be a finalist or the winner?

Boise State’s RB’s Heisman chance

In the majority of rushing measures, such as carries (344), yards (2,497), and touchdowns (29), Jeanty leads the country. Only Oklahoma State’s Barry Sanders, Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon, and UCF’s Kevin Smith are higher in the FBS highest single-season running record than he is. Additionally, he leads the nation in all-around yards 2,613, overall TDs 30, and scores 180. He had a 97.5 Pro Football Focus rushing grade, the best single-season mark since 2014 in the CFP era.

As of now, to surpass Barry Sanders’ record, Jeanty will need to gain 132 yards during the CFB Playoffs. The CFP committee’s third-seeded Broncos (12-1) will play the winner of the first-round Fiesta Bowl between SMU (11-2) and Penn State (11-2). Let’s see who wins the Fiesta Bowl competition. Hold on, Spencer Danielson’s statement as Boise State’s head coach clarified Jeanty’s Heisman image.

Danielson encouraged the 870 Heisman Trophy voters to see the film during his presser on Sunday. “Because I truly believe when all these voters do that, I don’t think it should be close. I know I’m biased. I’m around him every day. But for what he’s done personally, what he’s willed our team to do as our top leader, winning a championship. … The individual stats that he’s racked up across the way, ” he stated, talking about Jeanty’s winning opportunity.

Now, watch and wait until December 14th. It will answer all of your questions about the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner.
