Taft’s education and athletic experience served as the foundation for her career in broadcasting. She grew up in a household that was very interested in athletics because her mother, Mary, was a speed skater and her father, John Taft, played professional ice hockey. Following their footsteps, she played several sports in high school, but she was especially good at hockey and lacrosse, where she won awards, including the 2005 NSLA Player of the Year for Minnesota’s best female player.

Following her graduation from Edina High School, she pursued a degree in Broadcast Journalism at Boston University. She kept enjoying sports while she was in college and improving her communication abilities.
