Players are always inspired by Deion Sanders, and it’s easy to understand why. He consistently goes above and beyond to support them, both on and off the field. Buffs’ wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. has opened up about how Deion Sanders has been there for him during his father’s legal struggles. As the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, Sanders has gone beyond the role of a typical coach, stepping in as a mentor and father figure for Jimmy Horn Jr. during this challenging time. Sports anchor Romi Bean had a conversation with Jimmy where he shared how Deion Sanders has been a pillar of support during challenging times:

“Like you said, put it on the field like it was, like one practice when I came back from my dad court and stuff like that. Coach Prime like, let me know if you need a day off. I’m like, No, I need a day off this high coat with, like, football is my way to cope with a lot of things, you know, that I’m going through.” Jimmy’s father is incarcerated on multiple drug-related charges in connection to an incident that occurred on November 2, 2021. Unfortunately, sentencing for these charges was finalized less than a month before Colorado’s season opener.

Jimmy further emphasized how football has been a crucial coping mechanism for him during difficult times: “So, like, I just use this as my way to yacht. So, like, I can’t, I can’t take no days off with this. Like, I love playing this game. You know that just that, just really, like, how I cope with it forever.”

Jimmy’s missed his father’s support from the stands in their first game. He still delivered a strong performance and helped Colorado secure their first win over North Dakota by 31-26. For the first time, the wide receiver recorded 198 receiving yards. He also scored a touchdown.

In a recent team meeting, Coach Sanders stressed the importance of behaving well and stopping the use of bad language. He encouraged his players to speak respectfully, especially when they are around coaches and adults.

The local media reported HC’s statement, “Let’s be cognizant of your language on the buses after games and around adults,” Sanders added. “You guys are letting the profanity loose like the coach is your homie. He’s not your homie. That’s your superior.” Coach Prime never uses foul language himself. He strongly believes that how players talk with their opponents and coaches shows their discipline and respect.
