Carson Beck is thriving at Miami. Sure, the Hurricanes’ 5-0 record speaks for itself. But Beck’s individual stat line is something you can’t miss. The Georgia transfer has thrown for 1,213 yards with 11 touchdowns and only three interceptions. All of this coupled with a 168.5 passer rating shows how efficiently he is leading the offense. Beck has achieved a sort of renaissance in Miami. A triumph against all the doubts regarding his offseason surgery and leadership concerns.

Due to his recent success, doubts are being raised about how Georgia handled Beck. And one of the hot takes comes from a rival. Seminoles legend Jordan Travis clears his take on Carson Beck. “Carson Beck’s a damn good quarterback,” Travis said on the Travis Take Two podcast. “I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t think Carson Beck was all that. But watching him play football now, and watching the passion he had, Georgia was holding him back.” Beck had a tough 2024 season with the Bulldogs. He threw 12 interceptions and suffered a season-ending injury in the SEC Championship game.

His draft position was in doubt due to the injury. He initially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft but then surprisingly entered the transfer portal and committed to the Canes. At Miami, Beck found an offense and coaching staff, led by offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, that suited his pro-style quarterback game. Also, let’s not forget that this same Miami offense molded Cam Ward to become the overall no.1 pick in this year’s draft. Beck even secured a lucrative NIL deal reportedly worth around $4 million, making the move financially attractive.
Beck called the transfer “one of the best decisions” he’s made. Last year, Georgia and Beck were at odds with the offensive stagnation visible on the field. In the game against Kentucky, the Bulldogs managed only 63 total yards of offense in the first half and just three first downs. Beck struggled mightily early on, completing only 5 of 11 passes for 32 yards in the first half and showing signs of hesitation and poor reads. Georgia’s offensive plan did not do him any favors as they kept repeatedly running the ball into stacked boxes.

On top of that, there is an inability to convert on third downs (1 of 6 in the first half) and the poor execution extended drives for Kentucky. Georgia also committed 8 penalties for 70 yards and struggled to protect their quarterback after right guard Tate Ratledge went down with an injury. The Bulldogs escaped with a narrow 13-12 win, but the O-Line clearly showed holes. Compare that to Miami’s strong offensive line which has eased the pressure on the QB. Beck’s pressure rate dropped from 20.6% at Georgia to 16.2%. It allowed him time to dissect defenses and execute plays successfully.
During his last year at Georgia, Beck was unable to have any confidence in his receivers as he kept “trying to be Superman, trying to save the day.”Now with the Hurricanes, he’s got about 3.2 seconds in the pocket, up from 2.9 at Georgia last year. “When I’m given time, and I’m able to dissect defenses,” Beck said. “I believe that I’m very efficient, and I rarely miss.” The extra time’s clearly helping his accuracy.
Carson Beck needed this change
Entering the 2024 season, analysts celebrated Beck as a top NFL draft prospect and expected him to be a first-round pick. After the injury and subsequent transfer to Miami, former Bulldogs QB Aaron Murray had come forward with this blunt take before the 2025 season had even started. “I still think at the end of the day, if Carson was healthy, he probably would have been the number-three quarterback taken off the board,” But Murray had advice for the young QB.

“He needs to learn to continue to play within himself, play a very mature style of football.” The off-field distractions, like Beck’s social media drama and public personal life, created another layer of dysfunction to his time last year.
But then came the rise. Murray has now applauded the transformation Beck has shown in 2025 with Miami. According to Murray, his 4 TD and 241-yards performance against the Seminoles makes him “the best quarterback in America” right now. Beck’s offensive command is now propelling the Hurricanes toward ACC supremacy and a likely playoff berth.
