The Bond between teammates runs deeper than the field. It’s where brothers build love and trust for life, share dreams of making it to the big league, and forge countless memories. Ask anybody who played ball, destination or journey? They’d tell you ‘Company’.
So when Tennessee’s 5-star QB Nico Iamaleava took to Instagram with a heavy heart. His posts struck a chord with everyone who followed his journey. A heartfelt repost here, a tearful emoji there—it was clear Nico had lost someone who meant the world to him. But this wasn’t just about a teammate; it was about a fighter, a brother, and a story that now lives in the hearts of Warren High’s football family.
The name Juan Wilson Jr. literally etched into the legacy of Warren High’s football program. A former 3-star wideout and Nico’s favorite target back in their Downey days, Juan was more than just a baller. He was a symbol of grit, grace, and a never-quit attitude. Juan passed away on January 12th after fighting for three long years to recover from injuries sustained in a horrific car crash in 2021.

The crash had left Juan in critical condition, but the spirit he showed afterward was nothing short of inspiring. Nico, now the face of the Tennessee Volunteers, honored his fallen bro by sharing a throwback post on Instagram—a moment frozen in time when the world seemed brighter for both of them. In another story, Nico reposted Warren Athletics’ tribute, complete with a crossed-fingers emoji. The sentiment was loud and clear: Juan Wilson Jr may be gone, but his impact is staying on forever.
Juan wasn’t just another player; he was a route-running artist, a nightmare for all Cali defense, and a friend who had your back on and off the field. “He played the game with such speed and grace,” Warren Athletics wrote in their farewell post. “But his strength was never more on display than during these last three years…Juan Wilson Jr. passed away this morning. He is resting peacefully now. Two of my favorite smiles reunited, and I have to believe they are together and smiling down on us. Juan, you will be forever missed.”
That’s the type of strength people like Nico and his teammates carry forward. It’s not just about remembering Juan’s touchdowns or game-breaking plays. It’s about carrying his spirit—the determination to keep fighting even when the scoreboard looks bleak.

Fatal crash that shook Warren High and Nico Iamaleava and legacy
The tragedy dates back to a chilling night on the I-5 Freeway. A 2010 Nissan Altima, carrying three Warren athletes, lost control and met a devastating fate. It rolled multiple times, leaving a trail of heartbreak. Jaylon Connish, known for his infectious energy, didn’t survive the crash. Juan, barely clinging to life, became a symbol of resilience for the Warren community.
That crash left scars deeper than the physical wounds. Students lit candles under a “Rest Easy Angel” sign for Jaylon, and the football team became a family in mourning. The pain of losing 2 young stars, Jaylon then and Juan now, continues to ripple through Downey, a place where Friday nights under the lights meant everything. Look, losing a friend, a teammate, and a brother in arms hurts in ways words or languages can barely capture. But Warren High isn’t letting Juan and Jaylon’s story end here. From candlelight vigils to emotional social media posts, the school is determined to keep Juan and Jaylon’s memories alive.
