Kalen DeBoer’s first year in Tuscaloosa has been pretty under the radar. You can blame the offensive beating heart and Jalen Milroe’s blunders for that, but it is on his coach to place him better and chisel the best or worst out of him. So, it ultimately marks the callosity of the coach, who took a bullet in his back by coming up to succeed the GOAT Nick Saban. The unprecedented standard, the trademark legacy, was way too premium to be replaced. But DeBoer gives it a try with a subtle confidence written on his face during the early presumptive interview. As the season progressed, the reality started to shift.

The Tide faced a lot of bumps in their way and finally gave in 19-13 to the ReliaQuest bowl, Kalen DeBoer remains the key malefactor behind Milroe’s nasty downfall.

Kalen DeBoer’s accused of misusing Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe has taken a lot in a lackluster season. From taking the heat to overshadow Ryan Williams to mounting repeated interceptions, bad decisions, and overall topsy-turvey performances, Milroe seems to be done for good. Last week’s Michigan upset came off as the final straw of his career at Tuscaloosa. Despite a disappointing turnout each week, DeBoer didn’t consider benching him for once. DeBoer justified his move on the ground of Milroe’s mobility, leg spin added to the run game and he wanted to make the best out of it. But Clay Travis, the veteran analyst, isn’t buying it. ‘It would give him a D,’ Clay said when asked about DeBoer’s hypothetical first-year report card.
”I think Jalen Milroe has limitations, but he is a talented quarterback. The goal of supposedly an offensive genius head coach is to put his quarterback in the best possible scenarios to make plays, he didn’t do that,” Travis straightaway put DeBoer’s leadership ability on notice.

What grade would you give Kalen DeBoer after his first season as Alabama’s head coach?
“I would give him a D. Nick Saban, in 17 years, lost 3 games as a 14+ point favorite and Kalen DeBoer did it in year 1.” @ClayTravis pic.twitter.com/G0pbAXxJGW

Milroe messed it up against the Wolves. No debate on that. A poor completion percentage, early interception, and poor throwing all contributed to turning his legendary records into a fallacy. However, it didn’t start in the Bowl game. Much before that, Kalen DeBoer and Nick Sheridan (OC) failed to maximize their QB1. The game against Oklahoma is a prime example. The offense didn’t just get going.
Of course, we can hardly blame Milroe for the loss against Vanderbilt. That was when the defense was playing rubbish. Then came the game against the Vols. Nothing worked for the offense. The Vols shut down the run game, and Milroe failed to use his arm- a fear that has been highlighted throughout his college career. Amid all that, there were impressive games. Remember the first half against the Bulldogs? or even the play to clinch the lead late in the 4th quarter? And you talk about the legs? Talk about the game against LSU when Milroe just ran, and ran, and ran a little more. Multiple touchdowns later, Brian Kelly was fuming on the sidelines.

How did his season go? Well, it was a mixed bag, just like his head coach. However, DeBoer is optimistic and chooses to find light at the end of the tunnel no matter what.
”But I thought there were a lot of good plays, too. I saw the fighter. The fight in his eyes. As long as I see that I want to hang with the guys that this program means a lot to,” the Alabama HC defended his QB. But guess what, his words didn’t match his immediate action.

Kalen DeBoer made a massive secret move on Jalen Milroe
5-star QB from the ‘24 class and new Bama signee Keelon Russell dropped a bombshell in an interview with On3’s Steve Wiltfong. He said Alabama wants him to come as soon as possible and take the starting quarterback’s gig. Boom! What about Jalen Milroe, then? Considering the intel to be true, it’s palpable that the Tide is planning to move on from the Texas kid after a tumultuous first year.
Kalen DeBoer and Co want a new face in their starting. In other words, Milroe has to find his home either in the NFL or another school courtesy of the portal.
The moments you started to scratch your head wondering about Milroe’s potential destination and the looming career uncertainty, the prodigy had already made up his mind in a blink. The Alabama QB, a few minutes back, announced he is ready to forego his senior season and step up as a pro next.

Milroe didn’t seemingly have the top prospect draft, but he would be on the same page as Quinn Ewers, Carson Beck, etc.
It remains to be seen where he lands and how Alabama proceeds with their new locum in the room.
