Kalen DeBoer is not wasting any time. He’s pulling all the right triggers, building his coaching staff, and already eyeing top 2026 prospects. His recent junior day was a who’s who of elite talent, including Brandon Arrington and a slew of other big names. But DeBoer might be about to pull off a major coup, potentially snatching one of Alabama’s best players right out from under their noses.

Sure, the Crimson Tide, currently ranked No. 5 in the SEC, have offered the massive 6’5″, 280-pound defensive powerhouse and locked in an official visit. They’ve got a killer pitch, no doubt. But get this: it’s the team sitting at No. 10 in the SEC that’s got this coveted 2026 prospect seriously interested.

It’s 4-star DT Emanuel Ruffin who’s giving tough competition to four SEC schools. As On3 Sports Cory Bender wrote on X on February 9, “This fast-rising defensive lineman from Alabama tells me he scheduled four SEC official visits. One of them is with the Florida Gators. ‘They’re going to play a role.’” Yeah, Billy Napier and the $15.8M worth Florida Gators are leading this recruitment race.

One of the top defensive linemen in the 2026 class, Emanuel Ruffin received multiple SEC offers from programs like Florida, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, and USC in January. But Billy Napier’s program might just have the edge given recent developments. They have scheduled an OV where the No. 18 DT will visit the Swamp for the first time on June 6-8. “I most definitely want to get down there and see how the facilities are, how the coaching staff is in person and just everything about it,” he said. I love their mentality and coaching down there. That’s something I’m really big on. Also, the academics down there and just everything there.

Ruffin’s inclination mainly stems from the recruiting efforts of the Gators’ DL coach Gerald Chatman. “We talk pretty often,” he admitted. “Coach Chatman, he’s a real cool coach. He keeps it real and is just a straightforward coach.” No wonder Florida extended his offer on January 22. Now, here’s the sting for Alabama and the other SEC teams that have scheduled OVs.

Currently, right now, they’re going to play a role, but I’m not sure because of all the teams. It’s been pretty busy,” the Bessemer City High School standout said.

Emanuel Ruffin steals SEC’s attention

Like Florida, Alabama is also set to host an official visit for Emanuel Ruffin on June 20-22. He’s already been to Tuscaloosa for the junior day event this past weekend. And well, the interest isn’t nonexistent. He said on Touchdown Alabama, “I got to see around the facility, talked to Coach DeBoer and also talked to my position coach then went to the basketball game.” Ruffin also added, “They definitely going to play a role in my recruitment.” But isn’t the hype less than Florida?

Again, Florida and Alabama aren’t the only SEC schools that locked down a chance to impress the formidable defender in person. Emanuel Ruffin will open his official visit with a trip to LSU from May 30 to June 1. And from June 13–15, he’ll be at the grounds of Neyland Stadium, taking in the sights and feels of Tennessee. So, it’s going to be the survival of the fittest.

Florida may be trending for Emanuel Ruffin right now, but recruiting battles are usually won in the fourth quarter. These official visits are going to be straight-up survival of the fittest. Don’t count out Alabama—they could make a game-changing move to flip the table!
