Kirby Smart’s ten years with the Georgia Bulldogs have been historic. The Bulldogs has won two national championships back-to-back, three SEC championships, and 6 SEC East championships. His team has been giving nightmares to their opponents for the last decade, and continues to do so. He holds a head coaching record of 108-19, making him one of the most experienced and successful coaches in college football. He’s dominating this season too, as usual, with a 3-0 record, standing at No.5 in the SEC rankings, but it seems a break is as important as the grind…

As the college season is going into full swing, a recent report suggests that Coach Smart won’t be serving for the Georgia Bulldogs much longer. Although these kinds of rumors about Kirby often fly around, this time, the coach himself has admitted in a recent interview about his tenure and interests.
According to 680 The Fan‘s report on X, NFL Hall of Famer Champ Bailey intimated that Kirby Smart’s tenure with Georgia won’t last forever, like Nick Saban and Mark Richt’s tenure with Alabama and Georgia. He also asked fans to enjoy his tenure while it lasts. “This is your tenure,” Bailey told 680 The Fan radio. “Let’s enjoy this while it lasts, because the days of Nick Saban staying as long as he did, 17 years at Alabama, the days of Mark Richt staying 15 years at Georgia, these days seem to be in the past.”

In a recent interview with Chris Low from On3, Kirby Smart admitted his interest, while his retirement plans were brought to the desk. Smart referenced Saban’s career and where he was wired and still could do it. But he has many other things to do, and wants to experience that he hasn’t enjoyed yet. “I look at Nick, and I look at the way he’s wired, and he was wired to where he could do that. He could probably still do it now,” Smart told On3. “I have so many things I want to do, so many things that I want to experience and enjoy that I haven’t gotten an opportunity to enjoy, because of the grind and the climb. I don’t see it going that long. But health permitting, I’ll be doing something.”

Chris Dimino of 680 The Fan radio claims that being a successful head coach attracts business deals just like major league managers and NFL coaches. He says that the business people wish to use their name and want them to be a part of their board. There is a big career outside of college football. Smart won’t have a paycheck coming in if he wishes to retire. However, Dimino keeps things interesting, saying, “other things”. He makes it clear that he is not going to serve for 17 years with the program like Nick Saban. He then puts his health first, and also wishes to do something, keeping the option wide open.

Kirby Smart could switch to the NFL
Based on Kirby Smart’s interview with On3, Nick Cellini and Chris Dimino of 680 The Fan discussed that switching to the NFL can be the healthier option for him. He then stated how being an NFL coach is different from college coach. Domino said that the NFL coaches used to sleep in their offices after their things were done. However, in college, there is a lot of recruiting and decruiting work to do. In the NFL, the Boosters are not just boosters, but are partners. He says that life is easier and healthier being an NFL coach than a college coach a thousand times.

Did you know? Kirby Smart actually worked in the NFL. Back in 2016, Smart was the safeties coach for the Miami Dolphins under Nick Saban. Their team finished the season at No.14 and didn’t qualify for the postseason. After that, he followed the steps of Nick Saban into college football. If the Georgia coach follows Saban’s footpath, he still has 20 years left in him until retirement.
