After completing his South Sumter High School journey in Bushnell, Florida, Rashad Johnson was about to join Georgia. Initially, he was pledged to Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs on July 14, 2024. “I knew it was Georgia when I went up there on a visit, you know what I mean? It just felt like home.” Johnson expressed his feelings after he committed to Georgia earlier this year. No one predicted that he would change his mind right in the middle of the 2024 season and switch to the Aggies.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Rashad Johnson handed over his commitment to the Texas A&M Aggies. He was ranked as the No. 391 player in the country and the No. 34th best safety in the class of 2025. After delivering his support to Texas Tech, he said, “My relationship with the coaches, the relationship those coaches have with my coaches, and the development part were big things in my decision.” Johnson explained that after looking at all the options he had in his mind, it was Texas A&M that stood apart. That’s why he chose the program.

Johnson’s commitment is a major opportunity for Texas to strengthen its already strong recruiting class, which includes 21 commitments, among which 14 players are four-star rated. With Johnson’s switch to Texas, they have successfully added one more talented player to their 2025 class. Besides that, it’d be a disappointment for Georgia to lose a player who has a long list of good career performances.

Kirby Smart led safety’s football career
At South Sumter High School, Johnson excelled as a defensive and offensive player. In his junior year, he recorded nine receptions for 209 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. Through the three seasons at South Sumter High School, he completed in total of 123 tackles, with eight tackles for loss. Besides that, he had one sack and 13 pass breakups, including four interceptions.
After completing high school, Johnson was determined to go ahead with his collegiate journey to Georgia in July 2024 under the guidance of Kirby Smart. However, the reason is still unknown for his flip from Georgia on September 7, 2024, a few hours before the Week 2 game against McNeese State. Moreover, let us know your thoughts on Georgia’s 2025 class minus one talented player, Rashad Johnson.
