As with most geniuses, the mastery comes with its quirks. Lane Kiffin has earned the moniker of “genius” in the football coaching sphere. An offensive whiz that is held in high esteem by all contemporaries. Strictly in coaching terms, though! Lane Kiffin, the person, is synonymous with polarizing, and that’s where the quirky side of his eccentric personality kicks in.
The Ole Miss HC isn’t averse to a bust-up on the sidelines. And he certainly isn’t averse to one on social media. Coach Kiffin’s X and IG activity is well chronicled. He’s prone to throwing the odd jab or stray bullet that can rub some cynics the wrong way. Mostly vetted football traditionalists who want to see head coaches stick to the Xs and Os rather than show individualism. Conceded, not everything Lane Kiffin propagates over the internet is righteous, not that anybody can be the judge of that. But every so often, he does tend to drop a gem. Some are hilarious, some emotional. Or in this case, equal parts of both!
Lane’s daughter, Landry Kiffin, is a regular feature of said social media activity. She’s a student at Ole Miss, too. The relationship between a father and daughter is sacrilegious. As cheesy and clichéd as it sounds, no other relationship can replicate the sort of dynamic it breeds. So if you wanted a microcosm of this dynamic, look no further than Lane Kiffin’s latest IG story.

Lane Kiffin posted a reel that involves a scene from the Ice Age movie series. The accompanying caption with this reel read, “Me and my daughter arguing and then making up 5 minutes later because we are basically the same person.” Coach Kiffin decided he wanted to float this onto the airwaves for his 117K followers to see and wrote, “Me and @landrykiffin 😂.” Arguing over stuff, whether it’s petty or substantial, just to come to a truce. Talk about epitomizing every father-daughter dynamic going!

This isn’t the first time Lane Kiffin has posted something about Landry Kiffin. But posting about his family has been a theme throughout the off-season. A welcome change of pace from what projects as a head coach constantly on the edge in the fall while traversing the treacherous SEC. On theme, Lane Kiffin has also been sharing updates that subtly point to a reconciliation in his love life as well.

Lane Kiffin virtually throws it back to when he was still married to his wife Layla
Lane Kiffin and Layla Reaves were married for 12 years before a divorce in 2016. Layla received custody of all 3 of their children, as well as a third of his income in the subsequent settlement. You’d think that breeds animosity from Lane, and it probably did for 8 or so years. However, the pair is back together now. Naturally, Layla is a prominent feature of Lane’s X activity.
Coach Kiffin posted a series of throwback pictures over the weekend, reminiscing over the time his late father, the great Monte Kiffin, was the defensive coordinator at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Those privy to Monte Kiffin’s career are aware that it’s hardly a surprise that his son is this revered as a coach. But we digress.
The pictures were of the Kiffin family enjoying a day out at what you can assume was a Florida beach. Lane, Layla, Monte, and Landry, among others, are featured. Landry Kiffin is still a wee toddler in the pictures, which suggests they’re from the early 2000s. Lane Kiffin, somewhat uncharacteristically, was reserved with words when it came to the caption. He singly tagged the @bucaaneers handle.

In the first picture are Layla and Lane Kiffin holding their daughter Landry. Befitting of the relationship Lane shares with his daughter and is mending with Layla. Coach Kiffin is a multi-faceted, layered individual. While he projects this bubbly persona to the masses, it’s one that’s been cultivated and forged through some darkness and adversity. So it’s great to see him seemingly enjoying the time and company of his family. Something that will inadvertently become a precious commodity once football season circles around.
