The unbeatable Georgia is finally beaten by a team that isn’t Alabama! That’s news in itself. Nobody expected it; maybe that’s why the celebration is bigger than ever for Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss. No. 16 Ole Miss entered Saturday’s game against Kirby Smart’s No. 3 Georgia as underdogs to deliver one of the biggest upsets in the 2024 regular season.

Every Ole Miss fan has a reason to celebrate after their stellar victory. Following the win, Lane Kiffin’s son, Knox Kiffin, took to his Instagram story on November 9 to share the final score of the game, where the Rebels triumphed 28-10 over Georgia. In the caption, the 15-year-old wrote just one word that uplifts Ole Miss while adding salt to Georgia, “Underdogs.”

Ole Miss entered the game as a 1.5-point underdog against the Bulldogs without playmakers like Tre Harris and Henry Parrish Jr. While success marked the Rebels score in the first half, QB Jaxson Dart had a brief exit with a left ankle injury. But he returned and recorded 199 yards and one touchdown in this pivotal victory.

For the Bulldogs, it was a dreary game that handed them more than one loss since the 2020 season. Georgia held to only 69 total yards with an average of 2.5 yards per play and saw Carson Beck throw his 12th interception of the season while recording 163 yards and zero touchdowns. After his indifferent attitude and repeated turnovers, Ole Miss converted it into points with a 32-yard field goal to lock the final score at 28-10. And for Lane Kiffin and the Rebels, it’s more than just a win.

Ole Miss breaks Georgia’s winning streak

This fall to Ole Miss hurts Georgia on a different level because the Bulldogs had to give up their 52-win streak excluding Alabama losses. As College Football Report posted, “For the first time since November 7th, 2020, Georgia loses to a Non-Alabama football team.” Four seasons ago, Georgia lost to Florida. This loss didn’t necessarily wipe Georgia out of the playoff race (5-2 in the SEC) but the remaining games in their schedule will be a real test.

As for Lane Kiffin and his program, it’s a big fat win. It’s the second time in Ole Miss history that the Rebels defeated a top-2 team in the AP Poll. It also marks Kiffin’s highest-ranked win in his five seasons in Oxford as well as the highest-ranked victory at home in the program’s history. With a 10-2 record, they only have two more teams to beat—Florida Gators and Mississippi State—to win a solid chance for the playoffs.
