Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin’s son, Knox Kiffin, made his first start as quarterback for Oxford High School on October 24. Facing Clinton, the young signal-caller impressed, throwing for 186 yards and two touchdowns on 9-of-16 passing. It goes without saying that mom, Layla Kiffin, couldn’t have been happier.

“Proud of this guy… #staythecourse,” she wrote on X on October 26, sharing a photo with her son. That praise, however, wasn’t without a valid reason.

The sophomore QB led the Chargers to a 33-23 victory over Clinton. His team finished with 285 yards of offense at the end of the night.

It showed not only his poise but also his playmaking ability despite his limited experience under center. He managed to connect on a 37-yard TD pass to Christian Fields and a 34-yard scoring strike to Kingston Gregory.

With limited reps before starting, Knox had thrown for 109 yards on just four completions. It proves that he was ready to leap when called upon.

No wonder, when Oxford junior quarterback Drew Dean, who was the starter against Germantown on October 17, left due to injury in the third quarter, Knox entered. He came in and led a crucial drive late in the game. He capped it off with a game-winning two-point conversion. In the end, Oxford defeated Germantown 43-42 in overtime.

Now, his performances may have left many wondering whether he would possibly play for his father in the future, but the answer to that is a firm no. The teenager wants to carve his own path.

“I’m definitely not going to play for my dad,” he said earlier this month. So, college football fans probably won’t see a Deion Sanders-style family storyline unfold at Ole Miss.

While he might not want to play for Lane Kiffin, the proud father loves watching him engage in the sport.

What does Lane Kiffin think about his son’s skills?

Unfortunately, the father wasn’t present to see his son play against Clinton due to his demanding schedule. He also missed attending Knox’s game against Germantown.

“I mean, that was awesome,” the father said about the Germantown game on October 20. “For a dad — I wish I could have been there, but I was watching on the phone, on the feed — there’s just something that, as only dads can explain, about your kid playing ball and going down and winning the game like that.”

He even stated that coach Chris Cutcliffe, who is the son of former Ole Miss coach David Cutcliffe, did a good job leading Oxford.

So, the next generation of the Kiffin family is stepping up in a big way. Aside from his stunning performances on the field, Knox is already attracting attention from college programs. Although he recently announced plans to visit LSU, he hasn’t received an offer from the Tigers yet.

Meanwhile, other schools have already extended offers: SMU, Arkansas State, Western Kentucky, Sacramento State, Murray State, Georgia State, FIU, and East Carolina.

But when talking about his top 3 destinations earlier this month, he stated he would love to play for Oregon, Florida, and LSU.

The Tigers might come as a shocker to many. After all, they are the Rebels’ rivals. It will be interesting to see which college he ultimately chooses. What do you think?
