Where does a head coach go when fans can’t stand him anymore?! Florida fans aren’t seeing eye to eye with Billy Napier lately. Though their offense didn’t disappoint in the last 45-28 victory against Mississippi State, the scar from Week 3 is still there to haunt the Gators’ HC.

The Gators Football posted the details of their next game against UCF on October 5 on Instagram on September 24. Their Week 5 game against the Knights will kick off at 7:45 PM ET and will be available live on SEC Network. However, most fans are more concerned about Billy Napier’s status than the announcement or the upcoming game itself. One person wrote, “Napiers last game in the swamp in coming!”

The fury of the fans first ignited ahead of the Gators’ Week 3 SEC opener against Texas A&M when Billy Napier chose to start 6th-year Wisconsin QB transfer Graham Mertz over highly-rated HS recruit DJ Lagway. When Mertz started in Week against Miami, the Gators lost in a blowout 41-17 defeat. When Lagway started in Week 2, he led Florida to a dominant 45-7 score against Samford. So what was Napier thinking when he chose to start Meets over Lagway in Week 3?
It didn’t help Billy Napier when Florida was crushed by the Aggies in their Week 3 game. It culminated in more displeasure towards Billy Napier when fans started calling for his dismissal even before the game ended 33-20. Now with a matchup against a Big 12 leader on the horizon, fans aren’t confident in the HC to get them a victory.

Fans have no confidence in Billy Napier
Social media can be cruel and this person’s sarcastic statement is an example. They wrote, “Can’t wait to watch a coach who has zero energy zero motivation and mediocre play calling to lead this team again.” So far, 2024 hasn’t been great for Billy Napier and the Gators as they’re 2-2.
Gators fans couldn’t stand the thought of seeing Napier on the sidelines of another losing game. A user wrote, “Billy still coaching the Gators? No thanks!” It’s an ouch for the HC who also started the heat with UCF with his “Rural Central Florida” dig after Week 1.

Expectations hurt, whether big or small, whether losing what seemed like a probable winning game or having their thoughts busted like this user. “Without Napier, right? … Right!?” Unfortunately for this fan, Billy Napier is still the Gators HC going into Week 5.
