Right from his freshman season, Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has embraced every Buckeye tradition. That also includes hating on the team up North. Now, brands are also using his Michigan hate for some comedic content, and we are not complaining.

In an ad for Battlesports posted on Smith’s IG account, he isn’t your explosive wide receiver but the owner of JJ Enterprises INC. It’s Monday, 9 a.m., and Smith is back in his office, grim-faced, no smile, giving strict orders to his employees. Never mind that he also occasionally catches those footballs, too, on the office premises. Who could stop him? After all, he is the owner. The scene then cuts to Smith’s office, and former Clemson RB Darien Rencher (Smith’s employee) knocks on his door.

“He’s been acting a little weird with me for some reason,” Rencher murmurs and knocks on Smith’s office door. “Yo, wassup, boss. I know you saw that game last night. And my parlay almost did.” Smith looks at Rencher like a fire-breathing dragon and shows both middle fingers instantly. Rencher couldn’t understand the reason for Smith’s annoyance, and that’s when two employees sitting in the office pointed to Rencher’s tie. It was a maize-and-blue tie, the same colors Michigan players suit up in.

Smith quickly orders his employees to cut Rencher’s tie, and that’s where, probably, the annoyance ends. Although it was just an ad, it still showed the ‘hate’ that Smith has for Michigan. The OSU phenomenon has already defeated the team up north once and will probably do it a 1000 times more if that’s what it takes for Smith to finally feel satisfied. Nevertheless, defeat or not, people are now appreciating Smith’s sense of humor.

People are reacting hilariously to Jeremiah Smith’s Battlesports ad

Hating the team up north is a century-old requirement for any Ohio State player, and Smith has embraced that tradition. Last year, after defeating Michigan, Smith gave the frustrated Michigan fans the bird (middle finger), something that OSU fans loved. Now, they are once again enjoying Smith’s trolling of Michigan in the Battlesports ad.

“So he’s good at football, and he’s funny😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 ,” commented one user on Smith’s IG post. While another user sarcastically cautioned Darien Rencher that it was his mistake to wear that Michigan-colored tie to the office, “You should’ve known not to wear that into work.”

This isn’t the first time Smith has expressed his resentment towards Michigan. Last year, in an interview with The Athletic, Smith expressed frustration with losing to Michigan in 2024. When asked why he felt that way, Smith simply stated, “I hate them, just something about them.”

As for the ad, one user commented, ironically, that the company’s HR would even approve of Smith’s cutting the tie. “Goofing off in the office, HR is gonna love this!” Another user remarked that Smith’s ad with Battlesports was the “best thing I’ve ever seen.” It was, of course, a stretch, but which OSU fan would mind when Michigan is getting trolled?

Talk about Smith’s intensity of hating the Wolverines? Last year, when OSU was about to face UM, a reporter asked Smith about Michigan’s strengths. The freshman sensation quickly replied, “Nothing stands out to me, personally.” Just like that, Smith scored a 35-yard touchdown against them in the second quarter. That’s the reason one user remarked upon watching Smith do comedy, “JJ can do it all!! 😂. Great stuff.”
