No one needs a win this week more than Billy Napier. After a 1-3 start this season, Napier is not just under immense pressure but also on the hottest of seats. And their next opponent is not making it any easier. Going up against Texas won’t be a walk in the park for Napier’s squad, who are already having trouble scoring points so far. Their 7-point performance against Miami before the bye week showed glaring issues with the offense. Even DJ Lagway couldn’t do much for his team. 690 yards with 5 TDs and 6 interceptions doesn’t scream excellence. The worst part? The predictions already give Texas an upper hand in the game. If the Gators get shut out, Napier may be responsible for the end of a historic streak.

The Miami Hurricanes scored 344 total yards against the Gators, whereas they held them to just 141 yards. And the worst part? The Gators were 0 on 13 third downs, their worst since 2022. Now, all this adds up to one conclusion: they might go flat against Texas. And SEC Mike points the same at TexAgs. “I made a bold prediction on my show last night. I don’t know if you guys are aware of this, but Florida has scored in every single game dating back to 1988. It’s the longest streak in college football history. It’s like 488 games. I think the Gators get shut out on Saturday. Last game, that would be the final disgrace of the Billy Napier era. So I don’t even know how good Texas is. Yeah. I got 27 to zero, which is what I got Texas winning at.” A shutout would all but ensure that Napier should start looking for another job for next season.

So, it’s pretty clear that SEC Mike’s hoping that the Gators might not be able to score a single point against Texas. And looking at their defense, that might be the case. As Sam Houston could barely move the ball against them, getting only 7 first downs all game, they were just 1 of 14 in third and fourth downs. They only recorded 122 total yards against Texas, with 27 rushing yards, averaging 1 yard per run. Crazy, right? Throughout the game, the Longhorns handed them a lot of negative plays and even had 10 tackles for loss and 5 sacks.

But there’s a catch. The opponents against whom the Longhorns have dominated have been cupcake teams. Steve Sarkisian in 2025 did flinch against the one strong team they faced in Ohio State. Even Mike states the same: “You know, we keep hearing how great Texas defense is. Do we really know, given the competition they faced? I think that’s a fair criticism.” But let’s not forget even Billy Napier’s offense is nothing more than a mess right now. They just had 32 yards in the first half against Miami and scored just 1 touchdown for the third straight game.

Texas also has its own fair share of problems this season. With a 3-1 record, they might look strong, but Arch Manning’s inconsistency has made things tough for them. His 10 straight incompletions against UTEP and a mere completion of 11 of 25 passes for 114 yards with an interception is something that Billy Napier’s team can double down on. And there comes Mike’s second prediction: “If Florida wins this football game, which clearly I don’t think they will, Texas is not going to the college football playoff.” So, it’s not just a crucial game for Napier but also for Sark. In between all this scrutiny Napier gets some much needed backing.

Steve Spurrier backs Billy Napier

The way college football is moving forward, every program needs immediate results, or else? You are fired, and the same happened with Brent Pry, Mike Gundy, and Sam Pittman. And even Billy Napier is in the hot seat after a bad start.

But despite all the adversity, Steve Spurrier, who was the HC in Florida from 1990 to 2001, backed him and said, “Oh, hang in there. ‘Hang in there’ is about what we’re all saying right now,” Spurrier said. “I think the local papers and national media have sort of hinted that our Gator offense has been like a D, and our defense has been like a B. So one’s got to get better, and the other stays there or gets better also. But, yeah, we’ve got to play better and coach better.”

This was a much-needed message for Napier, who’s facing immense pressure. But can we really blame him? They are having the toughest schedule this season, which places them against teams like LSU, Miami, Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Florida State. Imagine going up against all of them in one season. Now, let’s wait and see if Mike’s prediction turns out right or Billy Napier finally changes the narrative around him.
