Michigan’s 2027 OL recruit has a chance to prove his family legacy. Marcus Freeman is actively hosting top recruits from the 2027 and 2028 classes during spring practice. But one recruit that’s making the most buzz is Michigan’s commit, who was also left impressed with the Irish. But here’s the bigger question: will he choose his father’s former team or follow his own path?

Three-star offensive lineman Louis Esposito from Saline High School in Michigan is currently committed to Michigan and is the son of former Michigan defensive line coach Lou Esposito, who is now with the Baltimore Ravens. Now, Marcus Freeman is making a strong push towards him to flip his commitment. Esposito even explained his experience after the visit.

“The visit was great!! The thing that stood out the most for me was the campus, as well as how down-to-earth the coaches were with me and my family,” Louis Esposito said to Rivals.

On top of that, Esposito really liked offensive line coach Joe Rudolph. He felt Rudolph was not just a good coach but also a good person. He enjoys talking with him and spending time with him. Because of this, Louis is thinking about visiting Notre Dame again. He may come back for the spring game on April 25 and also for an official visit in June.

Other teams like Penn State, USC, Louisville, Michigan State, Pitt, and Purdue are also interested in him as he moves forward with his recruitment. Knowing his father’s connection with Michigan, there’s a high chance he might not change his mind. But sometimes players tend to chase excellence too. Just take Dylan Raiola’s example; he came to Nebraska honoring his family’s legacy, but switched to the Oregon Ducks this season for better development and opportunity.

On top of that, Notre Dame can also position him well with the connections they have with him. Esposito comes from the same high school as their current QB, CJ Carr, which can help them build strong momentum and chemistry in the games, too. Marcus Freeman’s team produces one of the most remarkable offensive lines, and Esposito can learn a lot by committing here.

Marcus Freeman’s team had a very strong offensive line last year. They helped the team score about 42 points per game, which was one of the best in the country. The offense also gained around 458 yards in each game, showing they moved the ball easily.

On the other hand, Michigan’s offensive line struggled last year. They failed to protect their quarterback, Bryce Underwood, as he was sacked 20 times last year, whereas CJ Carr took just 12 sacks because of Notre Dame’s strong offensive line. So, it will be interesting to see which team he finally picks. But he is not alone in this battle.

Marcus Freeman’s OL target gains interest from other teams

Alongside Marcus Freeman, even Matt Campbell is fighting hard to get Louis Esposito’s commitment. At first, Louis Esposito chose Michigan when Sherrone Moore was the head coach and his father, Lou Esposito, was also working on the team. So, everything felt comfortable and familiar to him.

But now, things have changed a lot. Sherrone Moore is no longer the coach, and Kyle Whittingham has taken over the team. At the same time, his father left Michigan and is now working with the Baltimore Ravens. Because of these changes, Michigan is not the same situation for him anymore. The people he trusted and knew well are no longer there, so he is starting to look at other options again.

Another important factor is location. His father now works in Baltimore, and Penn State is closer to Baltimore than Michigan. This could make it easier for his family to stay connected. They also have a strong group of offensive linemen who can help Esposito develop, like Trevor Buhr and Brock Riker, as well as Anthony Donkoh, Cooper Cousins, and Malachi Goodman.
