Listen, we gotta talk about the Miami Hurricanes. Started the season off with a blast and wiped the floor with the Gators at a 41-17 win. The Hurricanes quickly certified themselves as the next big thing in CFB. And well, the reputation never faltered. Miami Hurricanes went on a full-on streak with an average of at least 40 points every single game. So, tell us why, when they playing on their home turf today, is the place so empty?

Back on X, College Football Report shared a snap of the stadium crowd right before the kickoff against Duke Blue Devils. “8-0 Miami’s crowd at home right before kickoff,” College Football Report mentioned in the caption of their post. Almost one-half of the entire top part of the stadium was empty, except, of course, a few people were present and this was wild. HC Mario Cristobal and his crew have been on a roll.

This team is serving its fans some of the best games this season and that ain’t all. They even got one of the frontrunners for the Heisman trophy. The last time a guy from the Hurricanes won a Heisman was Gino Toretta back in 1992 and now Cam Ward is sitting on top of almost every chart. So, who is to be blamed for this mess? The fans or the University staff?
See, we would say one thing, the game against the Devils ain’t going that great. The second quarter is almost over and Hurricanes are trailing behind Duke. While Cristobal and Co. did get a lead in the first quarter with Xavier Restrepo‘s 34-yard TD and Cam McCormick 4 yard TD, the Devils quickly regained pressure with 2 back-to-back touchdowns and one more in the final moments of the 2nd quarter.
It could be that the fans somehow “predicted the future” for this game and decided to skip it or is there some other reason? See, the Hard Rock Stadium has a capacity of around 65,300 people, and well, if you are an 8-0 who are targeting the playoffs, you gotta sell it all out. However, for that to even happen, doesn’t the stadium have to be close to the campus? Well, at least that’s what the fans are pointing out as the reason for the low crowd.

Hurricanes stadium is “too far”
One fan was quick to point out, “Miami really really really needs a 40k stadium built near their campus…badly.” See, this discussion could land anyone in a pickle. When we checked the time to travel between the University of Miami and Hard Rock, it was around 38-40 mins. Now, is this bad? As an example, let’s look at Bama. The distance between the University of Alabama and Saban Field is only 3 minutes.

Another fan had a different explanation. “They legit might be the worst fanbase in CFB,” they pointed out on X. Now, we cannot blame the fanbase. Miami has tons of supporters, and maybe their fans just enjoy watching games from the comfort of their homes. Right? Another fan noted, “Rank number five and this is their home crowd…sad.” Yeah, true. He-k, even Bama, with their disappointing 3-game streak, still managed to pull fans in. Maybe Ward getting the Heisman would finally turn this around.
On a similar note, one fan mentioned, “They are actually good this year too. Shit is sad smh lmao.” Quite true. Cristobal has done magic with this roster cause no one on the board would’ve said that the Hurricanes would be leading this 2024 season this hard. Finally, one fan mentioned, “Miami Dolphins are 2-5, and they still gonna have more people than this.” This is funny. The Dolphins are having it rough this year, but you gotta admit that there can be zero comparisons between the NFL crowd and the CFB crowd.
