Carson Beck is no longer a doubt for Miami fans. The elite QB now rules the state, having defeated both Florida and FSU this year. “Everything about him it screams winner. We’re glad he’s on our side,” Mario Cristobal said after the QB lit it up in the Doak last week. The usually reserved QB rarely likes to bask in praise. But that isn’t stopping his teammates from raving about his presence and impact at Miami.

Beck just wrapped up his best performance of the season against the Seminoles last Saturday. He was 20-of-27, threw 4 scores, and recorded no interceptions for the 3rd time in the season. Carson Beck’s dedication to always putting his best self out this year is showing. But the QB’s biggest win is the impact and dynamic he’s created in the Hurricanes’ locker room. WR CJ Daniels didn’t hold back on how brilliant his teammate is this year. “He’s a leader, man. That’s the first thing. He’s our alpha,” Daniels told CBS Sports‘s Danny Kannell and Bryant McFadden.

Last year, Beck didn’t have much of a rapport with receivers on the field. To have that in Miami must be a blessing for the QB. Beck desperately needed that support, and this dynamic with the locker room is proof. “He’s a guy that, you know, he works hard in practice,” Daniels added. “He doesn’t flinch at all, man. So, he’s a great guy to stand behind.” Carson Beck joined the Miami practice in June, giving him only about 2 months to fully get into the rhythm of things at Coral Gables. Now, Beck is among the top 10 QBs in the season.

The Miami offense once again has a great quarterback, who is operating in an equally good offense. Beck has crossed the 1000-yard mark this season already, has 11 scores, and only 3 interceptions so far. This comeback was what was needed, and Beck is very well on his way to getting there. At Coral Gables, he no longer has to “be Superman,” he told ESPN. He’s in a system that only allows him a 16.2% pressure rate–in Georgia, the pressure rate was as high as 20.6%. Off the field, too, Carson Beck seems to have meshed into the offense. There seemed to be a clear disconnect between him and the rest of the Bulldogs off the field. But in Miami, the QB is now home.

Two of Miami’s biggest doubts this season were Carson Beck and the receiver corps. With each game, they’ve helped prove how well they fuse. Beck has built a productive rhythm with rookie WR Malachi Toney, who was electric against FSU. Daniels has also built a strong off-the-field relationship with the QB, finding common ground in coming back from a serious injury. What his Georgia teammates were saying about him last year isn’t being echoed at Miami.

Carson Beck is playing at Miami like a natural. He’s got back up in draft conversations and is once again among the most favorite contenders for the Heisman this year.

CJ Daniels is confident in the Heisman-level caliber of Carson Beck

The Heisman was probably one of the smaller problems for Beck. His season ended with an injury that left him unable to hold the football. His draft stocks had nosedived and crashed. And, the QB had to brave the sea of hate lashing at him throughout the offseason. After 5 games as Miami’s QB1, Beck has registered a QBR of 85 or higher 4 times. And after the brilliant show against FSU, Carson Beck is once again at the top of the Heisman odds leaderboard, at +600. He stands tied with Dante Moore at No. 1.

But Daniels is all for Carson Beck lifting the Heisman Trophy this year. He was asked by McFadden if Beck was living up to his Heisman hype, and if he was “the best quarterback in college football.” Daniels, without missing a beat, said, “No doubt about it.” “He’s a guy that comes in and he just takes over. When he first came in Miami, he set the standard and, you know, we follow suit,” he added. Fans agree as well. Carson Beck entered Week 6 as part of the Top 5 favorites for the Heisman, behind Ty Simpson, Jeremiah Smith, and Dante Moore. Now, he’s made the jump to the top.

“The past eight months have been so hard,” an emotional Carson Beck said after the Notre Dame win. “I’m just so blessed to be out here to have an opportunity to play again,” he’d added. Beck is making a comeback from the failure he hurtled towards last year.
