Things took an ugly turn with Virginia Tech’s HC Brent Pry after week 3. After a 0-3 start, being outscored 113-57, and a 45-26 humiliating loss to Old Dominion, Virginia Tech has finally parted ways with him. It’s not like Pry didn’t do anything for the program. Pry left with a 16-24 record and two bowl trips, but it was about a fresh start for AD Whit Babcock. Now, the Hokies are looking to a familiar face, and who’s better than Michael Vick, the former Virginia Tech star? The best part is that even though he seems interested, are Vick’s intentions as serious as they sound?

As soon as the news came out, everyone’s eyes turned right to Michael Vick. And even sources told CBS Sports’ Roger Gonzalez that Vick might be the perfect fit for the program, and he would “definitely be interested.” But here’s the twist: this man is already in Norfolk, and leaving it out of nowhere is something Vick might not do. As Gonzalez highlights, “But he really wants to get NSU right too. He really likes being at NSU, but Tech is a special place to him. I think he would listen because it’s Tech … he would talk.” So, even if he might seem interested in the position, there’s a high chance he might not leave Norfolk.

But the history among them is spooky, as Michael Vick’s résumé speaks for itself. After redshirting in 1998, Michael Vick took off as Virginia Tech’s starting quarterback in 1999 and 2000. And his record? That’s impressive with a 56.5% completion rate for 3,074 yards and 20 touchdowns. Even the rushing game turned heads with 1,202 yards and 16 touchdowns. Best part? He’s the same man who guided the Hokies to an 11-0 regular season in 1999 and a BCS National Championship Game appearance. So, winning is not new for him.

And above all, this place gave him all his fame after he almost brought Virginia Tech back from a 21-point deficit against Florida State in the title game. Even though they lost with a 46-29 margin, that turnaround was pure magic. Then his NFL career blossomed with the Atlanta Falcons selecting him as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, and he played 13 NFL seasons with the Falcons, Eagles, Steelers, and Jets. So, all these points point to one thing: Michael Vick is more than perfect for this job, and it might be Virginia Tech’s best shot to regain their national dominance.

Look, leaving a team that gave him a chance when no one believed in him is not something Norfolk State signed up for. And sure, they are off to a rough start with a 1-2 record after a lopsided 60-10 loss against Rutgers. Still, Hokies fans trust Michael Vick’s potential and know he’s the one who can turn their program into a headline-grabbing team.

Now comes the interesting part with Vick; even South Carolina’s Shane Beamer is expected to take the reins in Virginia Tech. So, is that really the case?

Michael Vick gets a completion in VT job

Following a disheartening home defeat to Vanderbilt, Shane Beamer’s South Carolina Gamecocks face a critical road game at Missouri next week. His team must concentrate on recovering from last week’s setback. But to do that, Beamer also needs to eliminate any distractions; right now, that distraction is Virginia Tech’s HC job.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Michael Vick the savior Virginia Tech fans have been waiting for to reclaim their glory days?

Have an interesting take?

Now, just like Michael Vick, even Shane Beamer shares a deep connection to the Hokies because of his father, Frank Beamer, who was a coach there from 1987 to 2015, and let’s not forget he was also a former player, which makes him their reliable option. But it looks like Beamer is not interested at all. “I think the week of the Virginia Tech game, I told everyone how I feel about South Carolina and my love for this place,” Beamer said. “That’s where my focus is at right now, just getting our football team better.”

Beamer’s substantial verdict makes it clear the chatter is just speculation. But there’s still a chance that Michael Vick might make a bold move. So, till then, let’s wait and see who among them is heading to Virginia Tech.
