Norfolk State has welcomed their new head coach, Michael Vick, with a bash. On Monday, when Vick walked on the stage for his inaugural speech, the crowd gave him a warm ovation, marking the craze of a former NFL quarterback in the program. Vick has an incredible experience of 15 seasons in the NFL and would possibly bring it all to his new home, this time as a head coach, the ultimate mentor of the players under the role.

Expect a huge turnaround from a 4-8 season in 2025. It would also not be an overstatement to hope for a stronger, healthier team culture with a better plan and direction. So, the Norfolk State players have a lot on their plate and can no longer sleep on their potential. On the other hand, the players have their lookout as well. Wide receiver Jahee Blake, therefore, on behalf of all, set the mark.

You got to take notes, we got to show how locked in we are. Because I know my guys are hungry. We’ve been hungry for a long time like we hungry for a winning a real like winning season and to win that championship,’‘ said Brookville High School grad Jahee Blake, who get the rare opportunity to play for two football savants.

While some are drawing parallels between Deion Sanders’ Jackson State legacy and the mammoth transformation into an HBCU football powerhouse, you would be wise to look at what Eddie George has done with TSU. Eddie George can perfectly be aligned with Michael Vick. He also belonged to the NFL rank and joined Tennessee in his first-hand coaching endeavor. He has been making a wave into the program, especially with the recruitment front, since 2021. Blake, the former Tennessee Wide Receiver, will bet it better as he is going to face both.

Coach Prime took to his X account to send a heart-melting message to the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback. Vick, no doubt, has been a trailblazer in his QB era. His dual-threat expedition was a treat to watch for any football freak. But as he steps on to a new role, it’s quite normal to feel a little shaky. But, validation from a legend like Deion Sanders seems to be enough for the 44-year-old to boost his confidence.

He’s forever changed to QB position in CFB, NFL, & he will have tremendous impact on Coaching & Leading men to their true destinations. Love ya, my brother,” the Colorado Buffs coach assured Vick, a newbie in the coaching sphere.

Sanders, however, didn’t give any unwanted advice. As per the reports, Sanders convinced the former QB to pursue the coaching splash when Vick reached out to him with a lack of clarity in his thoughts. 

Pulling him out from the dilemma, Deion told Vick, ”You might as well get into coaching (now)” and ”I don’t know what you’re waiting for.” The words played a magic role, and Vick ended up in Norfolk State’s HC chair.

Deion Sanders has done his part. Now, it’s time to see if another NFL legend can leave a similar mark of legacy in the mix or not.
