Michigan’s loss came at the worst time. Their 31-13 domination by USC didn’t just shock the entire fan base but also affected the Wolverines’ playoff chances. This is their first Big 10 loss. Fans are depressed. And there is no bigger michigan fan than Dave Portnoy who finds himself in a sticky spot. The embarrassing loss of his favorite team might force Portnoy to skip his appearance in the Fox Big Noon kickoff.

USC dominated Michigan offensively throughout the game, and their lack of tackling continued to be the problem. Even the Michigan offense was a mess. And Justice Haynes’s injury just added more to the misery. On top of all that, Bryce Underwood’s weak passing skills became a major problem for them. Now, after the loss, Dave Portnoy made a funny tweet with a picture of him wearing a neck brace with a caption that reads, “May not make @BNKonFOX next week. Something came up.”

Its the way they lost that is probably making Portnoy hide back in shame. And humor is good for Michigan fans as there is not much else going for them. Despite entering as favorites, they were outgained by USC with a 489-316 total yardage difference. Michigan could only get 109 rushing yards the entire game.

On top of that they recorded zero sacks against the Trojans and were continuously blown out at the line of scrimmage. The issue was the same against Oklahoma and Nebraska too. While Bryce Underwood did throw 15 of 24 passes for 207 yards with two touchdowns. His accuracy took a major hit as he couldn’t find WR’s properly. But can we blame him as the line couldn’t protect him.

The only good thing about Michigan’s game was Andrew Marsh. The wide receiver recorded eight receptions for 138 yards with one touchdown. His chemistry with Underwood has the potential to create magic on the field. But with this loss, Sherrone Moore highlights key spots they need to develop at.

Sherrone Moore gets real on Michigan’s game play

Michigan’s loss against USC might ruin their playoff dream. The biggest issue in the game was their tackling. They repeatedly met ball carriers only to miss them as they ran for big gains. Even Sherrone Moore couldn’t hold back his concern for the team. “We didn’t tackle very well, but we’ve tackled a lot better. And that was not one of our best tackling performances,” Moore said. “And those guys executed well. They had a really good plan. And there’s too many opportunities, big plays, third down conversions, scoring in the beginning of the game and at half. So we just gotta do a better job rallying those things. But credit to them, credit to their game plan. No excuses, we gotta continue to attack and get better.”

One of the most costly mistakes came in the second half when they faced third and 26, ready to force a punt, until USC freshman running back King Miller broke loose for a 49-yard run. That mistake set up a touchdown, stretching the Trojans’ lead to 21-7.

But Moore has a big plan ready for his team’s success. “We didn’t fit the run right, so that’s why the hole was so big. So again, credit to them, credit to Lincoln and that staff and what they did. But there’s things that we gotta look at, we gotta fix, we gotta make sure we attack.” The Wolverines cannot afford another loss this season.
