Even before Bryce Underwood could even take a single snap in college, Michigan is already back in the saddle chasing another blue-chip prospect. Now, this Tabor Academy standout prospect is gaining attention as one of the best in the 2027 class, boasting both a powerful arm and wheels to match. But here’s the kicker: he already snagged co-MVP honors at Michigan’s summer camp, making a significant impact on the Wolverines’ offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey. Now, that makes him Sherrone Moore‘s top target. Yet the Wolverines are not running alone in his recruitment, as they are competing with Penn State and Georgia for a shot at landing the next big thing under center.

Well, the Wolverines clearly value Peter Bourque, as they extended an offer earlier this spring and hosted him on campus four times. He holds the ranking of No. 7 quarterback in the nation and No. 86 overall in the Rivals ranking, which highlights the amount of national buzz around his recruitment. On top of that, 20 Power Four offers add to his hype even more, as Bourque’s profile continues to grow. But what’s turning heads is the bold praise from his longtime trainer at M2 QB Academy.

That’s right. Mike McCarthy, who’s been working closely with Bourque since his elementary school days, applauded his unique blend of size and athleticism that makes him an exceptional quarterback. Talking to Rivals, McCarthy said, “His athleticism really makes him such a dynamic prospect. If he was just a pocket passer, he’d still be, I think, Top 10 in the country. You add his athleticism on top of that with his 6-4 frame; it’s pretty unique to see that.”

Entering his junior year, he is already a 6-5, 195 lb freak, and his ceiling? That’s what makes him elite. As McCarthy adds, “He’s one we’ve had since fourth grade, so he’s very polished, understands it really well, and he’s got a chip on his shoulder. He’s excited to go out there and show everyone why he’s one of the best in the country.” Well, that’s no fluff. As it’s pretty much visible in Peter Bourque’s record. This guy is a pocket passer who threw for 1,737 yards, with 17 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions in his sophomore year.

Now, Michigan’s push for this 4-star QB is pretty evident, knowing there’s only 1 commit so far in their 2027 recruiting class. And that’s not a QB; it’s 3-star IOL Louis Esposito. And it’s not just his physical tools that make him a perfect fit for Michigan’s future, but also Peter Bourque’s increasing mental toughness and dedication that make him their key target. “You can’t just use your athleticism, especially at the next level,” McCarthy said. “You need to have it up here; you need to understand what’s going on pre-snap and post-snap and be able to process. I think that’s something he’s dedicated himself to.”

But despite all the hype, Sherrone Moore isn’t the only one trying to grab Bourque’s commitment…

Two other teams are seeking Peter Bourque’s commitment

Penn State’s quarterback recruiting has hit a few snags recently. First, Peyton Falzone, a 2026 commit, flipped to Auburn. Then, James Franklin missed out on 2027 four-star Teddy Jarrard, losing out to Notre Dame once more. It’s been a tough stretch, but the cupboard isn’t bare. In fact, the next move seems quite clear: enter Peter Bourque, who has already made two unofficial visits to Happy Valley.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Michigan outmaneuver Georgia and Penn State to secure Bourque's game-changing potential?

Have an interesting take?

Even better, he’s more mobile than people realize, capable of evading pressure and gaining yards when the pocket collapses. They’ve also made early connections, visiting multiple times, and geographically, it’s a perfect choice for Bourque. While the Nittany Lions might not land two quarterbacks in 2026, securing Bourque would compensate more than they have lost.

But here’s the kicker: Kirby Smart‘s Georgia has now entered the competition for this highly rated 2027 quarterback. The Bulldogs have offered Bourque a scholarship, and he is “fired up” about the offer, as he said to Georgia’s offensive analyst, Brandon Streeter. Despite Georgia’s push, Penn State still remains the frontrunner, as On3’s RPM ranks give them a 40.5% chance to land Bourque.

Now, Georgia’s 2027 class doesn’t have a single QB, which makes Peter Bourque a prospect to watch closely. But with Penn State and Michigan in the mix, it’s still a rat race between all three powerhouses. Let’s wait and see which team finally lands him.
