One NFL team in particular has eyes on Colorado’s do-it-all star Travis Hunter. And honestly, who wouldn’t? This guy isn’t just a star, he’s a unicorn. In college, he dominated both sides of the football, racking up 35 total tackles, 11 pass deflections, and four interceptions as a corner and 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 scores as a receiver. But now, the big question looms — Can he pull off the same magic in the NFL?

If you ask Hall of Famer Charles Woodson, the answer is yes. And if anyone’s opinion carries weight on this subject, it’s the only defensive player to ever win the Heisman Trophy. “He should be able to do a little bit of both,” the former Michigan standout said in his appearance on CHAMPSIDE on February 7. “My opinion is I think that he should play four time on a defensive side of the b— but he also should have packages on offense. I believe in, you know, if you have an ultra-talented player then he can’t just be one side of the b—.” 

Throwing light on his dual ability on both offense and defense, Woodson added, “You put pressure on the defense if you need to by putting him in a package and allowing him to go out there and be the special athlete that he is. So I look forward to seeing what he does on the next level.” Hunter’s confidant, Tim Tebow, also endorsed him playing two ways. “I would love to see it,” he told USA TODAY. “Personally, I am a fan of him and a fan of his game. I am rooting for him to do both because it would be fun.” 

Travis Hunter made the case for himself on his YouTube show. “Don’t just try to shut me down and make me and force me to do one thing,” his message is loud and clear. “I’ve been doing it my whole life. Ain’t nothing in front of me that’s going to stop me from trying to do it. So I’m gonna keep doing what I do.” As one of the top prospects in the 2025 NFL draft, Travis Hunter is a favorite to land with the $7.3B franchise per Brandon Olsen’s New York Giants mock draft. It predicts him going to Meadowlands with their No. 3 overall pick — A forecast that already has support from inside the locker room.

Why Giants should draft Travis Hunter

Giants inside linebacker Bobby Okereke isn’t just in favor of drafting Travis Hunter. He thinks it’s a no-brainer. Speaking to Front Office Sports, he said, “I think Travis Hunter is a generational talent. I don’t think you’re gonna see another player like him come across in a long time.” And here’s the case that shows why the Giants should draft the unicorn. 

The Giants have plenty of needs, and a quarterback is certainly one of them. But with Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders possibly already off the board, drafting a shutdown corner who’s also an offensive weapon is a chance too good to pass up. Hunter wouldn’t be expected to play full time on both offense and defense. But he’d be immediately starting at CB with the ability to shift to receiver when needed.
