Last Saturday, Florida Gators swooped past their embarrassing loss against the Aggies by picking up a victory against MS State. QB DJ Lagway turned in a mixed outing, going 20-of-34 for 280 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. His inconsistency as a passer remains a concern, but the flashes of brilliance suggest he’s still far from hitting his ceiling. And now, a recent IG story suggests that his brother could play next year. Unfortunately for DJ, it will not be by his side.

Lagway’s brother, Jamal Lagway posted a picture of a Texas A&M helmet with the number 3 on it. Jamal has received an offer from the Aggies and could don the number 3 jersey if he accepts. With both his father (Derek Lagway) and brother having made their name in college football, Jamal will look to continue the family legacy. New Mexico and Sacramento State have also extended offers to him, adding more legitimacy to the talent he brings to the game.

Now, the sad part for DJ would be that he wouldn’t be able to play along with his little brother. In fact, he might face off against him wearing an A&M jersey. That could be awkward for DJ, who suffered a humiliating 17-34 defeat to the Aggies two weeks ago. Knowing that your brother is joining the same team that gave you a beating could be a bothersome factor for DJ. At the same time, Jamal has shown enough prowess to grab the attention of HC Mike Elko.

Jamal Lagway plays as a cornerback for Willis High School. He is 6’0″ and weighs in around 160 pounds. He has posted 10 solo tackles, 17 total tackles, averaging around 5.7 tackles in three games. Furthermore, he has an ideal frame for a CB, and his stats show that he is tough to play against. Texas A&M offering him a contract means that Mike Elko has belief in the young Lagway and plans on building a stronger defense with him for the years to come.

Now that his brother is joining Texas A&M, DJ Lagway should look to improve his production and become an inspiration for the young kid.

DJ Lagway will have to be the difference maker against Georgia

The MS State game was too close for comfort, but the Gators snatched victory at the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Billy Napier was fired after the game and was replaced by his longtime assistant, Billy Gonzales. Now, Florida Gators face a big challenge, hosting the Georgia Bulldogs this Saturday.

With an interim HC at the helm, it falls to Lagway to provide any chance of a win on Saturday. With a 65.3% completion rate with 9 TDs this season, Lagway is the key to the Gators’ offense. But even with a decent completion rate, the accuracy is not always there. DJ has notoriously thrown 9 interceptions this season.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs look dangerous. They just snapped Lane Kiffin’s unbeaten streak. Gunner Stockton has settled in and the offense is working like a well oiled machine. Lagway and the Gators will have their hands full on this one. He will have to work on his accuracy and focus on being a threat rather than being a double-edged sword to his own team. If he could play up to his potential, then Lagway could be the key difference maker for the Gators on Saturday.
