Although the Cardinals couldn’t make it up to the AP Top 25 polls, there is a wave of optimism at Louisville. All thanks to new QB Miller Moss. “I think Miller Moss is going to come in and absolutely tear it up at Louisville,” as David Pollack stated. Pollack also predicted him to be the top ACC transfer in 2025. Now, this contributes a lot of responsibility for Jeff Brohm’s “Battle-tested, quarterback. Despite the hype, Moss got replaced by Jayden Maiava at USC, a change that stirred plenty of questions and speculation. But a prominent figure from the town hall is already excited for him in the Louisville community.

Last season, Moss threw for 2,555 yards, with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions, with a completion rate of 64.4%. After getting benched at USC last season, Jeff Brohm plucked Miller Moss from Lincoln Riley’s roster, and it seems he is set to make some noise.  However, Moss has got bigger shoes to fill. After it was Jack Plummer and Tyler Shough carried that flag in 2023 and the following year, Moss is expected to step up to their legacy. So, what is Miller bringing to the table that has got the Louisville community excited that even the mayor himself is betting on his talent?

The Louisville community is rooting eagerly for the Cardinals, with Mayor Craig Greenberg attending practice this week, soaking up all the reps and drills on the turf. And it would be fair to say that he was impressed. “Big thanks to Coach Brohm and his staff for having us out to practice this week. Can’t believe football season is back! I have a feeling this is going to be a special year for Cardinal Football. 18 days until we’re back in the L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium!🏈,” Mayor Greeberg tweeted. And how is the Cardinals’ new arm gearing up for the upcoming season? .

Talking about his last season, although he tallied impressive stats, he mentioned his shortcomings. He believes that he didn’t use his athleticism enough last year and wishes to change that coming into the 2025 season. “I think the best way to answer this is always is I’m working on everything. I’m trying to become the best possible player I can be. And I think I didn’t use my athleticism as much as I should have last year. So, I’m kind of looking forward to doing that. I want to showcase that a little bit more,” said Miller.

The roster is impressed to have Miller on the turf as well. “It’s like hitting the ground running,” wide receiver Kris Hughes said earlier in fall camp. “First day, he’s trying to get in the film room with everybody. He’s trying to get routes with everybody, get timing down, so he can learn everybody and see where they’re at,” he added. And much to the Cardinal’s delight, Miller has been named to the Davey O’Brien Award preseason watchlist. The new QB is plugging right into Brohm’s playbook, and as it appears, the Cardinals are headed to make some noise in the following weeks. But not everything is merry in Louisville.

Jeff Brohm points to Miller Moss’ glaring weak spot

Jeff Brohm posted a 9-4 overall record last season, which came to be known as the Cardinals’ best season since 2014, which put Louisville right back on the map. So, naturally, moving forward to this season, much is expected from Miller Moss. The Cardinals had their first live scrimmage over the weekend, and the head coach was pleased with both the offense and defense.

“Competition’s been great,” offensive line coach Richard Owens said. “We’re trying to move some pieces around, trying to see what the best fit is, who’s going to play at the highest level of ball, then get them to start gelling so we can start moving forward. They’re competing, and every day, it’s a new day.” Moss completed notable passes with accuracy. Overall, it was a decent performance. However, there is one glaring wrinkle in Brohm’s scheme of things, which might cost dearly to the program.

When under pressure, it’s hard for Moss to play up to his merit, given his past achievements at USC. That’s one thing that might collapse the whole offensive scheme if the quarterback doesn’t hold up to his best. “He’s calm in the pocket. He can deliver the ball accurately when he knows where to go when things are in rhythm, “ the head coach stated per the Big Red Louie. “Buying a little extra time, standing in there when things are getting bumped and jiggled around a little bit, where it doesn’t happen quite perfectly the way we draw it up. He’s got to continue to kind of feel his way through that and make good decisions and slide in the pocket, make a play.”

Talking about Brohm, David Pollack is extremely optimistic about Brohm’s playbook as well, regarding his coaching abilities. “If you’ve watched Louisville and if you’ve watched Jeff Brohm, he’s a freaking superstar; The way he coaches the game, the way he feels the game, the way he can use misdirection, the way he can use pro-style concepts with spread concepts.” So, maybe the ‘Quarterback Whisperer’ might find his next breakout star in Miller Moss. The Cardinals will kick off their season against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, and as the 2025 season approaches, he is eager to compete in the ACC.
