Eli Brickhandler just landed at Ohio State as their new QB commit from the Houston Christian Huskies. Ohio State couldn’t be any more right this time with the new addition. You can never go wrong with names like Jaxson Dart or Brickhandler. So, as the name says, Brickhandler is coming to throw that 16 oz prolate spheroid brick for touchdowns. But the guy will do more than that; he’s got that rushing game too, as we saw last season, and that makes him an exciting backup player for Ohio State.
Standing at 6’2″ and 195 lbs, Eli was a 3-star commit and joined the North Carolina A&T Aggies, being a native of Stockton, Cal. His 2022 season saw no action since he red-shirted and passed for 60 yards and rushed for 24 yards on 12 carries. Although Eli did see greater involvement in the next season after passing for 374 yards and rushing for 176, he still decided to transfer to HCU. At HCU, the QB settled into a more active role since the Huskies rotated three QBs: Cutter Stewart, CJ Rogers, and Brickhandler.
The player’s major performance came against McNeese on October 6th last year in the game he started. There, he produced 159 passing yards for a touchdown and also rushed for a whopping 138 yards on 22 carries. In total, Brickhandler saw involvement in 7 games last year and thus is coming with reliable starter experience if needed. The move would not only benefit Ohio State but also the QB, who will get the opportunity to dress up in that iconic scarlet and gray. His wife shared the excitement on her Instagram account.

Eli’s wife, Sean Kelly Brickhandler, shared her husband’s commitment news on her Instagram and captioned it with a red heart emoji. “Congrats, baby, Ohio is home.” Earlier, too, she shared pictures with Eli and their cute little girl all at Ohio State University with several pictures and captioned it with, “48 hours in Columbus, Go Bucks!” By the looks of it, Sean, Eli, and their little girl look happy at Ohio State as they posed for several pictures.’
One of the pictures shows the family standing in Ohio State Football’s front office with their little kid tucked in between them. Another one shows their little daughter sleeping carefree and donning a red t-shirt with Ohio State written on it. But the best picture was probably their daughter’s snapshot at Ohio State stadium, where she can be seen crawling on the field with a big OSU symbol beaming from the stands. The move is surely a happy one for the Brickhandler family, and with Ohio State’s QB battle wide open, everything is possible.

Have an interesting take?
Ryan Day, at the end of spring practices, broke the silence on the QB battle. “I felt like Lincoln, going into the spring game, was a little bit ahead of Julian. And then I thought, if you just watch the game, Julian probably performed a little bit better than Lincoln during the spring game. And here we are. So, going back through, watch the spring practices, look at the grades, they’re very similar. So we’ll take it into the summer. And we’ll let them play.”

The decision is prudent to give all three and now 4 QBs time to gel in with the receivers and make the final decision in the fall camp, who will lead behind the center. For now, the battle seems to be between Julian Sayin, the five-star red-shirt freshman, and Lincoln Kienholz, a junior. Both QBs are talented in their own right, and it remains to be seen who emerges on top.
