Drafted as a Charger for just 45 minutes before being traded to the Giants for Philip Rivers, it took the 2x Super Bowl winner Eli Manning 17 years to reveal why he did that: “I quietly tried to say ‘Hey, please don’t draft me, it can be our secret,’ and they didn’t keep the secret part very well.” Only Deion Sanders here has been anything but quiet about stepping in before the wrong team drafts his QB son Shedeur Sanders. If push comes to shove, Coach Prime has already cautioned in March: “There’s certain cities that ain’t gonna happen… It’s gonna be an Eli.”
While Coach Prime’s stance drew some flak, he has found support from a close friend. Shedeur is enjoying an impressive season in Colorado and is largely expected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 Draft. However, he may not play for the first team that picks him up, if his father’s comments are anything to go by. Now, Shannon Sharpe has surprisingly come out and backed Deion’s view on ensuring his son ends up with the right team. Surprising because, not too long ago, Shay Shay sang a different tune.
On Tuesday, Sharpe shared his thoughts on the Deion Sanders-Shedeur Sanders possible NFL situation. Talking on the Get Got Pod with Marshawn Lynch & Mike Robinson, the former NFL tight end said, “It’s not so much the quarterback.

“It’s the organization and what they put around him to support him. That’s going to determine whether or not he has success. I’m not sending my son to an unstable situation where you’re not gonna have the apparatuses around him in order to foster a situation where he can grow.
“So, don’t waste my time. I don’t care ’cause we got money. We’ll set that thing out, and we’ll go back in the draft the following year. So, you’re not going to put me in a situation and have my son looking like he’s never seen a foot or a ball and have him out there looking crazy. That’s not going to happen. So, I don’t have a problem with what he said. We’ve seen it done before. He just wants the best for his son.“In March, Coach Prime said that he would be willing to pull “an Eli.” He then followed up with what any father would do if Shedeur ended up with the “wrong organization” in his statement on FS1’s Speak on November 12. He responded, “Yeah, but I’m not gonna do it publicly. I’ll do it privately.
“Somebody that can handle the quarterback that he is. Somebody that can handle understanding what he’s capable of. Someone that has had success in the past handling quarterbacks or someone in an organization understands what they’re doing, not just throwing you out there amongst the world [and] you don’t have the support in the infrastructure of the team,” he said.
Now, Sharpe’s current take on Sanders’s stance is a U-turn from what he had said on the situation back in March. Responding to Deion Sanders’ claim that he could go down the Eli Manning route, Sharpe responded by saying, “Do I like it? No, I didn’t like it when Eli did it. I don’t like it now… Let whatever’s gonna happen, let it happen.” But it seems he is throwing his support around for whatever Sanders decides for his son.
Shedeur Sanders’s possible NFL landing spot has been much debated. His accuracy and quick release are qualities that will add to any NFL team. Although he can be inconsistent and does fall a little short on arm strength, it isn’t something that will prevent him from being a starting QB at a team. For instance, mock draft projections have linked him with the Las Vegas Raiders, a team that could desperately use a franchise quarterback. He will bring a sense of security to that position as well as a brand image of his own, something that Raiders’ owner Mark Davis will cherish.
On the other hand, certain mock drafts also see the New York Giants as a viable landing spot for the young quarterback after they moved on from Daniel Jones. But what is on the mind of the young quarterback?

Shedeur Sanders is pumped: “Y’all are not going to see me for a good reason!”
Shedeur is eyeing an entry in the 2025 draft and made his stance clear on November 5. In a video that surfaced on social media, a staff member at the Buffs is seen reminding the boys about registering for classes next term. In response, Shedeur says, “Registration for what? Man, I’m going to the league.
“I know after last game, y’all are not going to see me for a good reason.” Later, on X, he clarified that he was graduating early.

Then on November 30, following the 52-0 thrashing of the Cowboys, Shedeur said, “Last game at Folsom. It was legendary. Thank you to everybody for coming out. Let’s get it.” His mind seems to be set on the NFL and rightly so. But there is likely to be some drama before and perhaps even after his NFL future is decided, given his father’s stance.
