The one thing the Ohio State Buckeyes don’t have to worry about is the quarterback position. The Buckeyes have always had the luxury of recruiting the best QBs in the country. They always deliver. From J.T. Barrett, Dwayne Haskins, and Justin Fields to C.J. Stroud and, most recently, national champion Will Howard, that’s one department the Buckeyes never seem to lack, even in the 2025 season. But despite having arguably the best QB in the nation in Julian Sayin, Ohio State’s social media team is underselling him.

On October 13, Ohio State’s social media team hopped on X and proudly shared that quarterback Julian Sayin earned a 92.0 PFF grade for his Week 7 performance over Illinois. Sayin went off, completing 19 of 27 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns. That performance made him the only Ohio State player to record a PFF grade above 90 twice this season.

That’s a level of play, no freshman should be able to produce. The Buckeyes hyped it up like they should. But here’s the funny part: in celebrating his weekly success, the school actually undersold just how special he’s been. Because, in reality, Sayin isn’t just the highest-graded quarterback for Week 7. According to PFF, he’s the highest-graded quarterback in the entire country so far this season, with an overall 91.4 rating.
Let’s run it down. Sayin’s numbers have been excellent across the board. He earned scores above 90 multiple times. To start off with the latest game, he got 92.1 against Illinois. Then came 91.9 versus Minnesota. Through these seven weeks, Sayin has delivered exactly what was asked of him. He’s throwing darts all over the field, completing over 78.4% of his passes (the highest completion percentage in the country) and making it look effortless.

His best game might’ve been the 42–3 win over Minnesota, where he completed 23 of 27 passes for 326 yards and 3 touchdowns. This season, he’s thrown for 1,479 yards and 15 touchdowns with just three interceptions. The offense is running smoothly, and he’s kept that consistency all year. Even the GOAT himself approves of Sayin.
Nick Saban gives big props to Julian Sayin
Alabama legend Nick Saban talked about the best quarterbacks in college football during ESPN’s “College Gameday” on October 11. The show took place in Eugene, Oregon, and Saban said that Ohio State’s Julian Sayin is the best quarterback in the country. He mentioned that there are many great players this year, but Sayin’s performance really stood out to him.
Saban named other talented quarterbacks, such as Oklahoma’s John Mateer, Oregon’s Dante Moore, and Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, but said Sayin has done something no one else has. “But nobody has done what Ohio State’s quarterback Julian Sayin has… he’s completed 80% of his passes, nobody else has done that,” he said. The Oregon crowd didn’t like that one, but Saban was not about to be swayed.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Ohio State's Julian Sayin the best QB in college football, or is Saban just biased?
Have an interesting take?
Saban and Julian go a long way back. He recruited Sayin to Alabama before retiring in 2024. With Alabama’s future in doubt, Sayin decided to transfer to Ohio State just nine days later. Since then, all he has done is ensure the Buckeyes stay undefeated and reach the top of the AP polls. A path back to the natty appears more possible than ever.
