Okay so, we gotta talk about the Dawgs vs the Rebels. See, this is going to be one of THE games of the season. Lane Kiffin and Co. are standing on 7-2 while Kirby Smart is standing on 7-1. You gotta keep in mind that this game is going to have a major impact on deciding who cuts it for the playoffs. Kirby Smart’s loss to Bama is still a big stain that ain’t gonna be washed off anytime soon, but he does have a chance to turn it all around when he faces Kiffin and then the Vols next. However, for Kiffin, well, this is tricky. See, for the past few weeks there have been major discussions regarding Gators having their eyes on Kiffin.

And if Ole Miss loses against the Dawgs, then it might just seal the deal. At least, that’s what Paul Finebaum thinks. Back on The Matt Barrie Show, Matt Barrie puts an interesting question on the table, “If Georgia wins, does that put Lane Kiffin one step closer to the swamp?” and Finebaum had a very simple answer, “I believe so, yes.” See, first, you gotta understand what’s going on with the Gators. Billy Napier‘s era with the swamp has been a disaster. This dude was handed a 3x national champ team with a solid recruitment foundation and somehow managed to turn it into a 4-4 mess.

How? Horrible decision-making. Napier had access to a QB like DJ Lagway and who did he decide to go for as his starting QB? Graham Mertz. Now, no offense to Mertz, he is a great player but compared to Lagway? He does not stand a chance. The only time Lagway truly managed to shine was during the Wildcats showdown. The dude went for 7-14 pass completions with 259 yards under his belt and this allowed the Gators to grab a massive 48-20 win over Kentucky.

Adding insult to injury are the literal injuries in the QB room. Mertz was out with a season-ending ACL and then Lagway ended up getting his left hamstring injured during the Dawgs showdown. Napier managed to lose both of his starting QBs and he still has to face off against Texas, LSU, and Ole Miss.

At this point, the University of Florida will just take the shot and deal with the $26 million loss cause keeping Napier on the squad has done nothing but damage the reputation of Florida football. Coming back to the Dawgs vs Rebels thing. It doesn’t matter if Kiffin wins or loses this showdown. Gators could still come to him with an offer, but what’s more important is whether Kiffin can revive Gators football or not.

Lane Kiffin, the ideal pick for the swamp?

See, Ole Miss is in a solid spot. With Kiffin as the HC, the camp has gone 41-17 as per Week 11. The dude has gone for 8 bowl games, won 4, and lost 4, so that adds to the value. Another important fact is that despite having 2 losses to 2 SEC teams (Kentucky and LSU), the Rebels are still in the talks for the playoffs.

What the Gators need right now is someone who can make good decisions. Napier has done nothing but stain his reputation. From using Mertz as the starting QB to benching a 5-star player like Cormani McClain without any valid reason. There is hope that if Kiffin takes over, he can turn things around by switching up the staff and the roster.

However, take all of this with a grain of salt. We still don’t know if Kiffin would even be interested in coming to the Gators. More so because Ole Miss is running on a 7-2 record and they can easily go into the playoffs and make a name for themselves.
