Imagine your biggest critic suddenly patting you on the back. That’s probably how Deion Sanders feels right now after his team’s impressive win against the Arizona Wildcats, bringing their season record to 5-2. One of his most outspoken critics, Paul Finebaum, has been throwing shade at Sanders and the Colorado Buffs from day one, even calling them “irrelevant.” But after this victory, Finebaum seems to have had a change of heart—what a shift! Maybe he’s decided it’s time to step back from being the critic-in-chief.

On October 26th, Finebaum posted a lighthearted video on his X account, saying, “Might be time for a career change… Actor Paul Finebaum has a nice ring to it @JoeTessESPN @Katie_George05.” The video captured a fun moment from his show where Joe Tessitore and Katie George were playfully teasing Finebaum about his supposed potential for acting. Joe joked, “You would have made a great TV doctor. I can totally see you in that role. You’re basically a Hollywood mogul now!”

Katie took the joke further, suggesting that Finebaum would fit better as “McSteamy” (played by Eric Dane in Grey’s Anatomy) than “McDreamy” (Patrick Dempsey). Finebaum played along, saying, “I do think I could make the switch in a second.”

Joe wasn’t done, continuing the roast with, “If anyone’s looking for the next big character in a scripted drama, this is your guy. Just look at him. Listen to that voice, the mannerisms—the whole package. Paul Finebaum is ready for Hollywood!” Paul laughed it off, adding, “Bring it. I love it. I love it for you.”

It’s refreshing to see Finebaum take a playful roast in stride, especially given his reputation for sharp criticism. Whether it’s all in good fun or he’s genuinely considering new career options, Finebaum’s lighthearted side is on full display—a stark contrast to his usual role as a tough sports analyst.

Paul Finebaum’s praise regarding the Coach Prime

This playful exchange feels especially ironic considering Finebaum’s rocky history with Sanders. He’s been relentless in criticizing Coach Prime, accusing him of “gaslighting,” and even calling him a “bully” and a “hypocrite.” Finebaum has also criticized Deion Sanders for the flashy style of the Buffs and their underwhelming 4-8 record last season. But now, after watching Colorado’s turnaround and their recent 34-7 victory over Arizona, Finebaum’s tone has shifted. He admitted, “We should be appreciating and complimenting Deion Sanders for what he does on the field, not just focusing on the show.”

This isn’t the first time Finebaum has acknowledged the Buffs’ progress. After their commanding 48-21 win against UCF earlier this season, he said, “Of all the schools that impressed me the most on (Sept. 28), it was Colorado. They went to a tough place and won in dominating fashion.”

It seems Sanders’ coaching style, which some doubted at first, is beginning to win over Finebaum. Sanders has skillfully managed injuries and inconsistencies throughout the season, and Finebaum has taken notice. While it’s hard to say if this praise marks a permanent shift in Finebaum’s opinion, his new respect for Sanders and the Buffs is clear.

And who knows? With Finebaum’s sudden shift from criticism to praise—and his playful talk of an acting career—maybe we’ll see him pop up on a Hollywood set next. Well, do you think he’ll trade in his “ESPN analyst” hat for a “Hollywood heartthrob” tag?
