It has been a great start for the Miami Hurricanes, with two back-to-back wins in the first two weeks. And Carson Beck already looks like the version that turned heads in 2023, poised, efficient, and commanding. He had a phenomenal debut in 2025 after guiding the Hurricanes to a 27-24 statement win over No.8 Notre Dame in Week 1, he followed up by setting a program record with 15 straight completions in a rout of Bethune-Cookman. Stepping into Week 3, the Hurricanes are up for a new challenge against the South Florida Bulls.

The Bulls, on the other hand, are earning massive respect for their dominating performance, especially for their mind-blowing 16-18 win against the Florida Gators. In the previous game, they literally owned the line of scrimmage, restricting DJ Lagway and their offensive side from advancing the field. Although it went close, the tough-fought win earned them a name for themselves. After both teams showcased solid back-to-back wins, the next matchup is not going to be a cakewalk for the Hurricanes. So the question is, which team is going to taste its first defeat this season this Saturday?

On the 12th September episode of The Joel Klatt Show, the FOX analyst picks his side between Miami and South Florida. Klatt elaborated on a concern that might put pressure on Carson and Miami moving forward into Week 3. “I’m a big believer in Miami,” said Joel Klatt, “but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy, because South Florida is a really good team.” He gave a big shout-out to the Bulls’ defense, “They took away those big plays, even without getting the pressure on Lagway and him escaping a few times. So, their secondary, they can do it.” Joel continued, “But if they don’t get to [Carson] Beck, I trust Beck to create the plays on the outside.”

Against Florida, USF’s defense dictated the rhythm. The Gators managed only three trips inside the Bulls’ 20-yard line, and those chances produced just two early field goals before the defense came up with an interception and even a safety to stall further progress. USF kept the clamps on, finishing the night with four punts, including consecutive stops in the final minutes. The last stand, a three-and-out with under three minutes to play, gave the Bulls one final opportunity. A defense this disciplined and disruptive not only frustrates opponents but also exposes mistakes. Can the Beck-led offense stay composed and navigate its schemes, or will USF’s defense drag them into the same grind they forced on the Gators?

On the offensive side Klatt said Byrum Brown is going to be a “dual-threat quarterback for USF. He is really a good player. He’s huge– 6’3”, 232 pounds, carrying it about 15 times per game. That’s going to be difficult on Miami’s defense. But I trust the defense. Reuben Bain Jr., [Akheem] Mesidor they’re a huge problem for the opposing quarterbacks and the opposing game plan.” It would be interesting to see how Miami tackles the Bulls.

Klatt’s verdict? “USF has been told how great they are, and they’re the playoff darling. But I think Miami takes care of business here.” Klatt then predicts the game 31-14, but still feels that the 17.5 from the BetMGM odds is exaggerated.

QB Carson Beck on the first two weeks with Miami

Things seem to be working really well on the Miami roster, making things easy for the QB. After a great start to the season, Beck, ahead of the third week, addressed his thoughts on the first two weeks’ program. And when the QB sounds confident, the team stays collected!
