Deion Sanders has been infamous for having no filter. The iconic Coach Prime barely hesitated to speak his mind, no matter what the subject was. Remember when he came out of his retirement to play Baltimore Ravens star linebacker Ray Lewis? Deion’s former teammate has some philosophy to share with the world. His larger-than-life thoughts have always been a recurring theme in the football world. But this time, it comes with a four-word backup from none other than Coach Prime.

This man has everything. He has money, he has rings, he has fame, he has all of that, but the simple mathematics of it all is he’s just coming back to have fun and play football with his friends,” Lewis said before sharing the field with the Colorado legend back in 2004. The duo shared a meaningful time playing together in the Ravens jerseys. But his legacy stretches beyond the scoreboard. Much like Sanders, Lewis has been a trailblazer whose faith has shaped Ravens and everyone who got the privilege to taste it.

The man, strongly built by the verses of the Bible, used to captivate the athletes in the locker room with his rambling speech. Throughout the Ravens’ double overtime win over Denver back in 2013, the man kept shrilling, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper!”

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh openly spoke about how Lewis’ strong spiritual inclination has taken over the entire team spirit and helped them win games. The man in blue might have stepped down from his role on the field but in life. His latest social media post brought back a memory and a speech from his storied NFL career.

“When God tells you something, believe him. Listen to me, no matter what the journey, there are too many ups and downs, but boy, when you believe him,” the words still come out loud if you imagine him in a suit, setting the audience on fire. When did Lewis see these words? If you are a Ravens fan, it’s probably etched in your head.

The occasion was Ray Lewis’ Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony on August 5, 2018. Before he spoke for over 33 minutes that night, Lewis enthralled the audience with his signature roar. The speech included anecdotes from his career, highlighting how the team was resilient in the face of challenges. And there were nuggets. Lewis used a quote from Martin Luther King, which goes, “Love is the most durable power in the world.” Context? An ode to his mother and how she was his sports hero growing up.

The throwback to HOF induction day invited plenty of cheers in the comment section of Lewis’ Insta post. His old teammate, Deion Sanders, didn’t hesitate to showcase his support like always. “You Preaching my brother,” he wrote in the comments.

The two have been connected in so many ways and means. Sanders’s head-turning success with Colorado fostered a trend among the CFB hire-ups to hire head coaches from the NFL. “Following the Deion Sanders-to-Colorado model, Hall-of-Fame linebacker Ray Lewis has emerged as a candidate to become the next head coach at Florida Atlantic University,” NFL insider Adam Schefter wrote on X. Lewis gained some serious hype as a head coach candidate for Florida Atlantic last year. However, ultimately, the school dismissed that report. But Lewis’s habit of preaching did not always land him in a good spot. Some historic botch carries the woes.

Ray Lewis continues to shine off the field

Ray Lewis’ career stats often seem like they’re made up. 2,061 career tackles, 31 interceptions, 41.5 sacks, 19 forced fumbles. Rarely do we get to see a defender winning the Finals MVP in the Super Bowl. Lewis had that honor in Super Bowl XXXV.

Post-retirement, Lewis has ventured into media commitment, similar to a lot of retired athletes. However, he didn’t stop at just media gigs. Ravens legend went ahead and even wrote a book. His memoir, I Feel Like Going On. The book went on to be a New York Times best-seller.

A week ago, Lewis signed with media entertainment company Paradigm. The company will represent Raw Lewis in all areas. “I’ve always believed the greatest battles are won with alignment, discipline, and faith. With Paradigm behind me across every division, the vision just got stronger, and the mission just got louder,” Lewis said after the announcement.
