What a year for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks! After ruling the number one position in college football for continuous weeks with a solid 12-0 record. How could they stay behind on National Signing Day? Their performance this year helped them to add a five-star cornerback, Na’eem Offord, to their squad. But who is the real villain behind his flipping his decision?

Watch What’s Trending Now!

Well, Offord was committed to Ohio State in February. Much changed after a disappointing rivalry week where the Buckeyes lost to their biggest rivals, the Michigan Wolverines. A defeat caused them to lose their No. 2 position. Now, they are ranked at No. 6 with a 10-2 record. But who thought Ryan Day and Co. were going to get some more shocks? While many would believe that Dan Lanning would be the reason for Offord’s decommitment, CBS Sports College Football revealed the real culprit.

On their Instagram post, “Nike Founder Phil Knight played a “huge” part in flipping 5⭐️ CB Na’eem Offord, Offord told our John Talty.” Ahh! No doubt, this season, Lanning has played the role of the alchemist. The Ducks are the only team without a defeat this season, and Lanning plays a huge role in the extraordinary results. But he is not the real face behind Offord’s flipping.

The post mentioned Offord’s statement for Phil Knight, “He played a big role, like a huge, big role. He’s gonna help me make my shoe.” Well, this clears the air.

Knight was the co-founder and chairman emeritus of Nike; once, he was the chairman and CEO of Nike. Not just that, he is an American billionaire who owns Laika. Laika is known for making stop-motion films. He is a sports lover and a graduate of the University of Oregon. During his time at the university, he was part of the track team, then coached by Bill Bowerman. He started Nike with Bill, and as of December 2023, his net worth is estimated at $45 billion.

But is this deal part of Offord’s NIL? Right now, neither the cornerback nor the Ducks have shed light on it. Five-star switching his decision is a big deal. And this is definitely going to affect Ryan Day and his team. Who does not want the No. 2 cornerback in their class? By the way, Auburn was trying to have him in their squad. Let’s see why he did not choose the Buckeyes and Auburn.

Why Oregon Ducks and Dan Lanning?

The former Parker High School player is recognized as the top player in Alabama. Offord’s presence in the Ducks squad will help Lanning build an elite defense. Known for his versatility and impressive skill set, he is expected to make an immediate impact on the Ducks. Auburn tried to join the race very late, and he cleared that he would choose between Oregon and the Buckeyes.

“Hard decision, really hard decision,” he said when making the commitment. “Both schools will develop you as a man.” Offord was among the six Parkers who made their decision on Wednesday at the school. Na’eem announced his decision with Dan Lanning’s pitch for him. Although Auburn joined the race late, did they have an impression on him? Well, yes! Because when he made the final decision, he had their hat in his hands, but he replaced it with ducks and made it clear.

On flipping to Ducks, he said, “You have to know what fits you outside of football, and I feel like Oregon fits me. “It’s my decision at the end of the day,” he added. “Everyone has their own opinions. I really don’t worry about how they feel because it’s my future. I control my future.” Well, that is a big statement, and it will be interesting to see where his attitude takes him.
