When Dylan Raiola returned to Lincoln to support Nebraska softball during its Super Regional matchup against Oklahoma State, he might have expected negative sentiments. After all, fans aren’t so forgiving to a former face of the program who transferred out. But he walked into Bowlin Stadium because of his girlfriend Skarlett Jones who’s a freshman softball player on the team. Husker Nation wasted no time reminding him how they still feel.

“That dude needs to be run out of town,” one fan unloaded on seeing Dylan Raiola rocking a black non-Nebraska baseball jersey on the bleachers. “Hopefully that is not Nebraska shirt he is wearing. Fat a–.”

That comment hit every nerve attached to Dylan Raiola’s messy Nebraska exit all at once. The shirt criticism reopened the loyalty debate while the body shot dragged back months of “dad bod” jokes after Matt Rhule openly challenged the QB’s conditioning saying he wouldn’t succeed playing near 240 pounds.

Dylan Raiola eventually dropped around 15 pounds during what he described as a brutal daily grind. And that’s what makes this reaction feel more personal than random trolling.

Nebraska fans haven’t really gotten over how this relationship fell apart. Two years earlier, the Huskers built their future around Dylan Raiola who arrived as a 5-star recruit. The son of program legend Dominic Raiola, he was expected to help drag Matt Rhule’s program back into national relevance. Instead, the breakup happened in slow motion.

First came his brother Dayton Raiola’s decommitment in mid-November. Then Nebraska fired their uncle, Donovan Raiola, from the offensive line staff. By Dec. 15, Dylan Raiola officially entered the transfer portal himself. Behind the scenes, the separation reportedly stopped feeling emotional long before it became official. The QB reportedly explored leaving once before during the 2024 offseason. So by late 2025, the program was already preparing for the possibility he’d walk.

People close to the situation said Raiola’s family wanted a fresh start somewhere he could compete for championships and prepare better for the NFL Draft. Nebraska, meanwhile, got tired of the constant uncertainty around his future and didn’t mind moving on from a reported $3.5 million yearly investment. By the end, both sides seemed ready to part ways. But fans are on a different level.

Nebraska fans still haven’t cooled down on Dylan Riaola

Once clips of Dylan Raiola sitting in the stands started circulating, the reactions poured in quickly. “Would it kill him to wear a husker shirt? You know, the school his dad played for, he played for and his girlfriend plays for?” they fumed. In a place like Nebraska, even a black shirt became a social media drama.

Dylan Raiola sat there with sunglasses on looking completely unbothered, which might’ve irritated fans even more. “Can’t even wear a husker shirt?” they questioned. Well, he did look like the odd one out in a sea of red.

Others questioned why he’d avoid Nebraska gear altogether. “How’s this loser not wearing husker gear at a husker game supporting his girlfriend,” another asked. Maybe he thinks he’s just being loyal to Oregon now that he’s transferred?

The next comment summed that up. “He’s getting paid by Oregon now why would he wear a husker shirt to support his gf? Him being there is supporting his gf,” one fan commented. But as the comments show, he’s going to get the axe whether or not he wears Nebraska gear.

Then came the Oregon jokes. “He just preparing his ass for the fall. Gonna be sitting on it all season long watching the games,” one fan posted. That’s a shot at Dylan Raiola who’ll be opening 2026 in a backup role behind the Ducks’ returning QB Dante Moore.

Meanwhile, the actual game Dylan Raiola attended almost became secondary to the online discourse surrounding him. Nebraska softball rolled past Oklahoma State 8-1 behind Jesse Farrell’s huge performance that included a three-run homer and five RBI. The Huskers now sit one win away from their first Women’s College World Series appearance since 2013.
