It appears that a domino effect is unfolding across college football this season. Ten weeks in, and we’ve already seen nine head coaches lose their jobs. Brian Kelly became the latest to join that list, raising the question: Who’s next in line? With South Carolina’s HC Shane Beamer sitting on one of the hottest seats in the country, it seems ABC’s Noah Chast has found the perfect candidate for his next interview.

Shane Beamer finds himself in a predicament. With the ongoing HC firing carousel, he seems to be the next in line. With a 3-5 record, South Carolina has struggled to make a mark this season. All five of those defeats came against SEC opponents, which shows how poorly they have performed until now. With two more SEC clashes against Ole Miss and table toppers Texas A&M, it seems likely that he will also join the ‘coveted’ list. However, Beamer feels these things are part of his job and that he can’t control the nature of it.
In the interview with Noah Cast, Shane Beamer addressed the situation he was in. But he didn’t seem to take it to heart, accepting that it comes with the role. “You understand what you sign up for, you understand the expectations at these jobs, and you understand the urgency to get it done. But it doesn’t change how I do my job.” Beamer expressed.

“You understand what you sign up for … it doesn’t change how I do my job.”
With the recent firings of Brian Kelly, James Franklin, Billy Napier, etc., I asked Shane Beamer how aware he is of how quickly things can change in college football. His full response: @abc_columbia pic.twitter.com/YG3LzicDex

He talked about how head coaches are axed for the team’s current performance, even if they brought success with them in the past. Taking Brian Kelly’s situation as an example, the HC talked about how he was the talk of football when LSU beat Clemson in the season opener, only to get fired in October.

“It’s definitely eye-opening,” said Shane Beamer. A win against Ole Miss this week will go a long way in reducing the pressure he is facing.
Game at Vaught-Hemingway could decide Shane Beamer’s fate
Last week could’ve given a big boost to South Carolina if they had closed out the game against Alabama. The Gamecocks, surprisingly, held the Crimson Tide to a 22-22 score in the fourth quarter. But QB LaNorris Sellers’ fumble and WR Germie Bernard’s TD with 30 seconds to go were the final nail in the coffin for Shane Beamer’s side.

Hence why Shane Beamer is in the hot seat. And things are going to get hotter from here. Unfortunately for Beamer, his side faces Ole Miss and Texas A&M in the remaining four games of the season. Wins against them do not guarantee a playoff spot, but at least the Gamecocks can end the season knowing they beat two good sides.
For Shane Beamer, it will be a lifeline. However, the next games are also a double-edged sword for Beamer. If SC loses any of them, then it could very well be the last time we see Shane Beamer on the Gamecocks’ sideline.
