Another Saturday, another loss for South Carolina. That has been the theme of the Gamecocks’ 2025 season. Shane Beamer tried fixes, especially on the offensive side. He fired his O-line coach and OC, but he’s yet to get replacements. However, the head coach has a timeline in his head for that.

The Gamecocks fired OL coach Lonnie Teasley in October, and OC Mike Shula got the axe after the 14-30 loss against the Rebels earlier this month. Sportswriter David Cloninger shed light on Beamer’s plans to recruit two additional staff members. As per Cloninger, Beamer is “certainly hoping to have two new staffers in place soon after the Clemson game.” While the names of the replacements are not public yet, we can infer that the revelation comes after the head coach decided to fire Teasley and Shula not too long ago.

Shula’s firing was anything but surprising. The Gamecocks had not been able to make an impact in the offensive front under him. They struggled to score points and gain yards, placing 105th and 122nd nationally, respectively. Under him, South Carolina’s offense never managed to surpass 350 total yards in a game, which frustrated fans and ultimately led to his dismissal.

His firing meant that Shane Beamer is on the lookout for the fourth OC since taking over the program in 2021. His first OC, Marcus Satterfield, left to join the Huskers in the same position at the end of the 2022 season. Two years later, Dowell Loggains left to take over as the head coach of Appalachian State. Shula, on the other hand, had a different end at the Gamecocks.

On his part, Beamer reasons that he hasn’t been able to get his OC hires right yet. “Have we been efficient enough on offense and consistent enough on offense? Absolutely not. But let’s also not act like we brought in three coordinators, and we’ve just fired all of them, and we just threw up our hands.” Beamer said in an interview with The State.

What is he looking at in his new OC? Can Mike Furrey, the interim OC, take over the position? For now, Beamer is focused on what’s at hand. “I’m not closing the door on anything. I’m really trying to win these next three games … and then looking at, OK, what gives us the best chance to be successful going forward?” he said. “It’s exciting that you can kind of structure this offense however you want it here, going into ‘26 with two openings to fill.”

The Gamecocks can still end the season with some momentum. At 3-6, the only positive can be a bowl finish.

Amid the staff chaos, can Shane Beamer lead the Gamecocks to a bowl game?

To be bowl eligible, South Carolina has to win the remaining three games to reach the six-win minimum for a bowl game. But to achieve that, Shane Beamer will have to lead his team to wins against SEC leaders Texas A&M, Coastal Carolina, and Clemson. The Aggies are the first gatekeepers to the bowl game for South Carolina.

The Gamecocks have to pull off an upset victory at Kyle Stadium in Week 12 if they want bowl eligibility. Oddsmakers put the Gamecocks as massive 19.5-point underdogs for the matchup. So, they will have to deliver their best performance of the season just to give themselves a chance to win.

With a 3-6 overall record, it’s clear that South Carolina needs to make a change. Their current record stands in stark contrast to last season, when they posted a much stronger 9-5 mark in the SEC.
