“Bust down my AP perfect timing” was the caption to a viral IG post of a high school celebration. It was apt as the lyrics are from a song by Shedeur Sanders, and so was the celebration. Lane Kiffin’s son Knox has just made his high school football debut at his new school. His first touchdown was followed by the viral watch flex celebration popularized by Sanders in his preseason game with the Browns.

Knox Kiffin is a sophomore at Oxford High School. At 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, the young Kiffin wants to follow his father’s footsteps and play QB. He is currently a backup to Drew Dean. The team, called the Chargers, had their “Crosstown Classic” game against Lafayette. It wasn’t close. The final score was a brutal beatdown of 63-20. Oxford has now won this rivalry game 12 times in the last 14 years. Just before the half ended, the offense for the Chargers had reached the red zone. The o-line opened up a lane for Knox and he cut through the middle for his first score. His celebration, which was an ode to Sanders went viral. The viral IG post reached Shedeur and he proceeded to share it as a story on his profile. This ensured that millions saw Knox’s first TD as a Charger.

Knox, who’s been developing his own identity as a prospect, is no stranger to the spotlight. This summer, he attended an SEC football camp at Alabama, even pretending to be his dad at the podium during a mock press conference. Lane Kiffin himself has hinted at the possibility of recruiting him to Ole Miss down the road, but on this night, what mattered was that little flash of Sanders swagger. Knox, now 16, has fully settled into life in Oxford after transferring from Palos Verdes High School in California.

Knox Kiffin’s future prospects

The move came after Lane and his ex-wife, Layla Kiffin decided to bring Knox closer to his dad while giving him a chance to play football in SEC country. It didn’t take long for him to make an impact with his new team. According to 247Sports, Knox already has six FBS offers under his belt: Arkansas State, ECU, FIU, Georgia State, SMU, and Western Kentucky. That’s no small feat.

But mistakes must be avoided. Unfortunately, Knox Kiffin’s big moment under the Friday night lights came at a cost. The perfectly timed celebration move was not appreciated by the referees and Knox was flagged for excessive celebration.

It was a learning moment wrapped in a highlight. But luckily, the miscue didn’t change anything about the outcome. Oxford’s offense kept rolling, and the Chargers cruised to a dominant 43-point victory. Maybe Knox can have a college career as star studded as the one Shedeur had at Colorado.
