Dak Prescott’s misfortune seems to be turning into Shedeur’s good luck. Anyone who knows the ball will know who Dak Prescott is and his impact on the Dallas Cowboys. But now that his time under the sun seems to be drawing to a close, the Colorado QB is being predicted to step up and take his place.

The 31-year-old QB for the Dallas Cowboys is nearing the end of his contract with no extension in sight. Moreover, Prescott is on track to become the biggest free transfer in the 2025 season since Hall of Famer DE Reggie End. Prescott was drafted by the Cowboys in 2016 in the 4th round and has given his heart and soul to the team for over eight years. Now that Jerry Jones is supposedly choosing to cut the chord, Shedeur Sanders could be the next big quarterback to don the Cowboys’ hat.

Shedeur Sanders as the Cowboys QB?

On the latest episode of the Get Up show on ESPN, the hosts seemed divided on whether Shedeur could be the next QB for the Cowboys next season. Mike Tannenbaum had a relentless argument about how the Cowboys could make such a deal happen while also throwing in the name of CeeDee Lamb in the argument.

Per Tannebaum, Shedeur is more likely to become the next QB of the Cowboys than Prescott since the deal is quite shaky at the moment and said, “There’s a better chance, in my opinion, that Shedeur Sanders could be the quarterback [for the Cowboys] next year than Dak Prescott at this point.” The other hosts on the show were almost in disbelief over such a statement since this is quite a far-fetched possibility, especially since the Cowboys aren’t even close to the top-5 picks in the 2025 NFL Drafts. In contrast, Shedeur is being hailed as the top-3 QB next year.

Here’s why Shedeur going to the Cowboys is a doubtful situation

Per the 2025 NFL Draft order predictions, the Dallas Cowboys are in the bottom 5, ranging from 25 to 30. This instantly rebuffs any possibility of the Cowboys landing Shedeur Sanders, especially since Prescott is such a valuable Cowboys team member.

Another hot take that Tannebaum had to offer with his points was that the Cowboys could consider trading CeeDee Lamb in the hopes of landing Shedeur, another big flaw in his plan. Jerry Jones signed a $136 million, 4-year contract with CeeDee Lamb, the second-richest deal for a non-QB in NFL history. As such, it wouldn’t make sense for the Cowboys to send him away so soon after splurging such a considerable amount of money on him.
