Two words about Saturday’s result between No. 1 Oregon and National Champion Michigan—not unexpected. In what was a big blow to Sherrone Moore and Michigan, they suffered a cruel 38-17 loss as they fell further in the Big Ten after the loss to Dan Lanning’s Ducks. And sadly, they can as well kiss their season goals goodbye as they sink to 5-4. In times like this, what would you have said if you were the HC? Let’s hear it from Sherrone Moore, who failed to lead the national champions to a playoff appearance after their fourth loss of the season.

As posted on X on November 3, this is the motivational speech that the 38-year-old HC gave following the Ducks’ defeat. “The motivation is that you’re at Michigan, and you’re playing for the winged helmet.”

Michigan is known for its winning culture; they’re one of the prestigious colleges that aspiring football players wish to land at. But right now, it’s anything but an inviting program. The main problem for Sherrone Moore’s team stems from their quarterback dilemma, which saw their third starter take the lead in their sixth game. Davis Warren, Alex Orji, and Jack Tuttle, who recently announced his abrupt retirement, couldn’t fulfill the team’s expectations.

Davis Warren started in the last game against Oregon, where many things went wrong for Michigan. In the first half alone, their defense allowed 304 yards of total offense. The penalty from the special teams gave Oregon the opportunity to kick their drive to life. WR Semaj Morgan also committed a costly incomplete pass to Alex Orji. Still, it was a great play on Warren’s part, who completed 13 of 23 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns. While bowl game eligibility remains a mystery for the Wolverines, Oregon is on the other side of the fence, enjoying the best things.

Oregon continues to dominate

The Big House witnessed an attendance of 110,576 fans, making it the biggest crowd that the Oregon Ducks have ever played in. And they made it a memorable one, establishing their dominance in their new conference after transitioning from the Pac-12. The Ducks’ LB Bryce Boettcher said, “Joining a new conference, establishing a little bit of dominance. We’re new on the block but we’re here to stay.”

Oregon will continue to enjoy their No. 1 spot in the AP Poll ranking moving forward to Week 11, as they lead the nation with 9-0. A Big Ten Championship couldn’t be far away and who knows, even a national championship appearance? The Ducks will face three more unranked opponents before the postseason. Meanwhile, Sherrone Moore and Co. still have a big test ahead in their road game against the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers on November 9. Another game to watch out for!
