When we say the name Michigan Wolverines, what is the first thought that comes to your mind? One of the best teams in CFB? “Sign-stealing” scandal? Or an overrated camp that is surviving off of their last year’s fame? The Michigan Wolverines ain’t having a good time. After the Jim Harbaugh era was over and Sherrone Moore took the role as HC, people thought that nothing much would change; Oh well, the 4-2 run begs to differ.

So, after suffering such massive losses against teams like the Longhorns or Huskies, you would wonder if Michigan is going to go down on the AP polls right? Yeah, wrong. On3 took to X on October 6th to share the latest AP Poll Top 25 teams after Week 7. And what a surprise Michigan is sitting at No.24. The funniest part is; Fans, instead of being happy regarding this, are now furious. “Why tf is Michigan ranked?” was the first question a fan decided to pop on X.

Nothing has been going according to Moore’s plans. The team’s entire roster feels like a joke at this point. Moore and his QB woes are going to worsen after the Huskies defeat. Alex Orji was brought in to take center stage, and calling his overall performance disappointing would be an understatement.

Orji could not send in any good plays and had to be benched in the 2nd quarter of the game. While Jake Tuttle did try his best, against the Huskies’ defense and offense, it was not enough. To think that both Orji and David Warren were picked to recreate JJ McCarthy’s legacy feels like a sham.

What was worth watching was the Huskies grab their revenge regarding the national champion loss from last season. QB Will Rogers was a miracle worker. Going for 21 out of 31 pass completions and 2 touchdowns, he made sure Moore stood witness to what a Harbaugh and McCarthy-deprived Michigan feels like. However, turning gears, it’s time to focus on what the fans had to say regarding the entire AP Poll shenanigan.

Michigan Wolverines have fallen from grace

“Michigan in the Top 25 still? Ok,” a fan mentioned. This is wild. The Wolverines are having a wild run this year. The games against the Trojans and Minnesota should’ve been the biggest pointers regarding the team being washed up. Wonder what still keeps them in the top 25 list.

“Television ratings,” a fan noted. We wouldn’t be surprised if this was the case. You gotta keep in mind that the Wolverines still are the defending champions this year, so it is very natural for their ticket sales to be quite high.

“Brand bias,” another fan added. This is in line with the discussion on ratings. Although Harbaugh ain’t here anymore, the Wolverines are still a big name. Another fan asked the same question yet again. “Why is Michigan ranked?” they wrote on X.

Following the same sentiment, another fan mentioned, “Michigan got bailed out by the refs against Minnesota. Lost to Texas. Lost to Washington. Have been incredibly underwhelming.” This entire thing proves that in CFB, wins-losses aren’t the only things that make you stand out. If you have the brand name or the legacy, somehow, you will still land on the polls or the lists.
