Deion Sanders is always in the headlines for ranking his kids, and Shilo has usually been in the bottom half of the list, for really good reasons. Deion talked to Shedeur and Shilo before he went in for surgery, as documented by Well Off Media, and while most kids would’ve sent thoughts and prayers before a major medical procedure like this, Shilo became a master negotiator.

The funny exchange started with Shilo pointing out the obvious: “You have too much money to be getting all these surgeries,” to which Deion responded with a simple question about what he’s supposed to do. Shilo didn’t miss a beat, offering what he called “a way out”. “If you give me $5 million just to have, I will make sure that you don’t have to get surgery,” Shilo pitched with the confidence of a man who definitely wasn’t getting cut from the NFL a couple of months ago. Deion played along, clarifying that all it would cost him was five million dollars, to which Shilo doubled down: “Yes, I’ll make sure you have the best care.”

But Coach Prime wasn’t buying what his son was selling. “Right, I know your care. I know where your care coming from. I don’t want anything to do with your care,” Deion fired back, clearly amused by the whole proposition. Shilo, never one to give up easily, threw out one final attempt to close the deal: “If you give me five, I’ll make sure you alive.” Shilo’s response threw the entire room into a fit of laughter, including Deion. Given the circumstances, Deion probably needed that laughter a lot.

The surgery Deion was facing is another ongoing battle with health complications that have been plaguing him for years. Sanders has dealt with blood clot issues for a while now, and now they seem to have reappeared in his legs. He’d already lost two toes to blood clots back in 2021 during his time at Jackson State and had part of his calf removed in earlier procedures.

Despite the seriousness of the procedure, the fact that Deion Sanders was able to laugh with his son before a major procedure is evidence enough of how strong a will he has. Deion’s spirits still remain high, and he has promised to get back to practice as soon as he can, because apparently, missing practice is not his thing. Deion Sanders has made it clear that his health issues won’t keep him from the sidelines. Well, Shilo’s negotiation tactics might not have worked on Deion, but he did give him a hearty laugh, and that, too, is worth a couple of million at least.

Coach Prime’s ongoing battle

Deion really can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to his health. The 58-year-old Colorado head coach was visibly struggling during the Buffaloes’ 35-21 loss to TCU, sitting on the sidelines late in the game and removing his left shoe to relieve the pressure. “Cat’s out of the bag, all right. I think I’ve got more blood clots,” Sanders told reporters post-game, his frustration evident. “It don’t make sense. I’m hurting like crazy. I’m not getting blood to my leg. That’s why my leg is throbbing.”

When Sanders announced he was undergoing another procedure on Tuesday, an aspiration thrombectomy involving his left popliteal and tibial arteries, he did so with the same unwavering determination that’s defined his entire coaching career. “I am having a procedure today. Prayerfully, I’ll be right back at practice tomorrow. Cause I don’t miss practice, I don’t plan on doing such,” Coach Prime said in his health update. “It is what it is. Found what we found. I have a wonderful team of doctors at UC Health and a team of wonderful trainers here. It has nothing to do with me working at the level and competing… it is hereditary. It is what it is. I trust God with all my heart.”

This wasn’t exactly breaking news for those who’ve followed his journey. He has been pretty open about his struggles with blood clot issues, which go back to his time at Jackson State. Only Deion Sanders could face such a serious health battle and still promise to be back on the field for CU’s next game. Get well soon coach, the field isn’t the same without you.
