What is College GameDay without Pat McAfee? If we had a shot at meeting this guy, we would give him a long hug for making the game day so much fun. Not only has this man managed to make Nick Saban laugh and even make the HC’s wife have a small dance with him, but he also almost managed to get blown off by a cannon shot. It is borderline hilarious the antics he pulls up on the show, but one thing that has always remained consistent is his nature of “giving” to the people. See, Pat McAfee ain’t Pat McAfee without those massive donations, and this 2024 college football season has been a major success for his guy’s road to donating money.
Back on X, Pat shared a clip from his show talking about all of his donations. “College GameDay has been AWESOME this year,” Pat mentioned in the caption of his post. Breaking down the donations, it looks like McAfee managed to give away millions. More than $100k was given to Hurricane Relief. Follow that up with more than $1.2 million that came in from crowd donations and other members of the GameDay crew adding to the pile.

And it doesn’t end there. The BuckeyeThon back at OSU paid a couple of hundred thousand. Then iPads were given out to the patients down at the children’s hospital in Texas A&M. All of this makes you fall in love with Pat.
Yes, we get it. The fans made the donations possible, but without Pat’s charm? Yeah, none of this would’ve worked. Like, who would even want to stand that close to a live cannon and risk it all for the people?
But you know what’s funny? Despite all these millions in donations, fans still somehow managed to lose out on money. Yeah, this one revolves around the entire field goal ritual. See, Pat has been an All-Pro Punter and a Pro Bowl. So it is very natural that he is going to host a field-goal-kicking contest during College GameDay. Do you have any idea how much money there was up for grabs?

Pat McAfee saves millions
Back on Instagram, Front Office Sports shared a very interesting statistic. Around $650k was given out to the winners of the FG contest. However, there was a much bigger prize pool. Out of all the contestants, only 5 managed to land the 33-yard FG.
What’s your perspective on:
Did fans miss a golden chance to cash in on McAfee's generosity, or was it just bad luck?
Have an interesting take?
Hence the $650k payout. However, when you sit back and calculate the total amount lost to the 23 missed field goals, then you will be shocked to find that fans managed to miss out on $5.2 million.
Y’all had a chance to run McAfee dry but blew it. No, but jokes aside, what other host is doing something as massive as this, huh? Even that entire deal with Belle Sessions and Henry Silver. McAfee gave away $800k during that ordeal. $400k was split between Belle and Henry, and the remaining $400k went to the hurricane relief funds.

Man, teams will come and go, but we sincerely hope McAfee stays around forever.
