The Miami–Cardinals game started with a curveball. The Cardinals put up 14 points in the first quarter against the No. 2 ranked Miami Hurricanes. Louisville held a 24-13 lead over Miami in the 4th quarter of their Week 8 matchup at Hard Rock Stadium. The biggest talk of the game came from the sidelines. Head coach Jeff Brohm completely lost his cool on quarterback Miller Moss after a failed third-down pass that could’ve extended their drive.
After missing the third-down completion in the third quarter, Miller Moss jogged back to the sidelines, where head coach Jeff Brohm immediately let him have it. Brohm looked visibly frustrated and shouted at Moss over the play. Fans began to wonder what he might have said. The miscue had cost Louisville a golden chance to double their lead, and Brohm clearly wasn’t having it. While some thought his words went too far. But at the same time, it made sense — Miami’s chances of closing the gap were very real. Apart from that one play, Miller Moss played at an absolutely elite level against Corey Heatherman’s defense. The Cardinals opened the game with a successful fake field goal, leading to a touchdown run by Moss. It was the first touchdown Miami’s defense has given up in the first quarter this season. Moss threw for two touchdowns, completing 21 of 33 passes for 228 yards with zero picks.
His connection with wideout Chris Bell has looked like Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua in action. Brown has caught 14 passes for 116 yards. Miami’s defense tried to bully the Cardinals’ offense, including a key sack from Keionte Scott in the second quarter, which temporarily stopped Jeff Brohm’s squad from scoring.
According to The New York Times, Miami and Louisville entered this game with strong defensive units, ranking ninth and fourth in the ACC in points allowed per game, respectively. Mario Cristobal’s Hurricanes hold the all-time series lead over Louisville at 12-4-1, but the Cardinals have won four of the last six matchups — including last year’s game in Miami. With the way this one is trending in the fourth quarter, Louisville could absolutely pull off the upset and climb back up the AP Poll rankings, unless they bottle it in the final minutes of the game!
