The Louisville Cardinals missed out on a back-to-back achievement in the ACC last year. Jeff Brohm’s second year was a little dim compared to his debut season in 2023. To up his chances this year, Brohm wasted no time and got to work at the transfer portal. While fishing in the pool for his next best solution, he scored a huge one in Miller Moss from USC. The 2024 season must have shaken Moss up, leading him to seek a new home. But the question is: Can he deliver in a way he couldn’t with the Trojans?

Miller Moss’s 2024 season was disappointing. Among all of Lincoln Riley’s problems that killed his campaign, Moss was one. His troubling performance was significant enough to suggest that USC might not be the right place for him. Louisville, on the other hand, was happy with a 9-4 overall record. Their QB, Tyler Shough, however, was departing to the NFL after throwing a career high of 3,195 yards. Brohm knew he needed to fill up that gap, fast. And who does he get from the portal? A frazzled QB who just wants a better shot at coming back stronger.

However, it looks like the once-scorned QB is headed for a better season this year. Josh Pate said casually about Moss in a sit-down with Flo Factory. “I think Miller Moss may do some special things at Louisville,” the analyst said in an off-hand comment. “He’s been battle tested,” Brohm said of Moss earlier this year. Moss had his problems, sure, but the depths are where the programs are stocked up. Even in his battered season, Moss managed to throw for 2,555  yards and 18 TDs. The potential can’t be overlooked, but the overbearing pressure was also weighing him down.

The QB can put up a mean game forward if he wants to. He has great accuracy, especially on short and intermediate routes is impressive. But those heroics failed to show in the games USC needed to win. He was benched mid-season when Jayden Maiava stepped in for Moss. That could’ve also signalled to him, and he decided to transfer, knowing that he’ll have to split time with Maiava because of how it prevailed. Now at Louisville, can he hope to live up to his former glory?

Miller Moss’ disappointing moments from USC

This is Miller Moss’s last year in CFB. He spent 4 years with USC, and has taken the center stage after 3 years of serving as a backup QB to Caleb Williams. And, it did not pay off. He was accustomed to the USC environment throughout his time with the program. Despite being deeply embedded in the program, he sputtered severely towards the end of the season. Ever since the Maryland game occurred, things have worsened for Moss.

A crucial interception by Moss allowed Maryland an opportunity to come back harder at USC. Another time when he gave away the game similarly was against Washington. Moss threw three interceptions in a game where the offense made no glaring faults; it was the quarterback who allowed the game to slip from his hands. He was benched shortly afterward, which was a highly needed call for Lincoln Riley.

Even after all of these setbacks, Jeff Brohm decided to gamble on the risks. Can Louisville be the magic factor for Moss’s final shot at rewriting the narrative?
