Michigan is coming back strong under a Year 2 Sherrone Moore. The Wolverines sure are making an impact on the gridiron, but the head coach is losing some fire in the recruitment arena. Top CB prospect Khary Adams has long been on the priority list for the program. But the Wolverine front office didn’t let up. Despite committing to another program, Michigan fans were hoping he would flip to Ann Arbor. But his latest update confirms where his heart—and football—lies, much to Michigan’s dismay.

Adams committed to Notre Dame on June 20 this year. He is a 4-star prospect, the 5th-best CB in the 2026 cycle, and the 4th-best player from Maryland. However, there was still talk about Michigan pursuing the CB, per insider EJ Holland. After a fan asked about any updates on the flip talk, Adams ended the rumors with a brutal dig at Michigan. He shared a meme of a skull with text that read, “Our brains are shrinking.” In other words, there is no scenario in which Khary Adams will be donning maize and blue, for now.

Adams has repeatedly confirmed that he will not be flipping to Michigan, as rumors swirled after his commitment to the Irish. He committed to Notre Dame after receiving more than 40 offers. A reason why his commitment seemed doubtful to many is that Notre Dame doesn’t really score recruits from the region. It’s an area that’s dominated by Penn State, which ended up being Notre Dame’s top competitor for Adams.

Notre Dame entered the race for Adams way before Michigan did. The Irish made an offer to him in June 2024, while that from Ann Arbor came in January 2025. Adams was also recruited by CB coach Mike Mickens himself. That relationship proved to be a major reason why Adams chose South Bend. “They were always consistent with me, and Coach Mickens has coached guys like me and put them into the league. I feel like he’s going to be able to develop me the best,” he told Athlon Sports.

EJ Holland has long argued that Michigan still had a chance in flipping Khary Adams. “Michigan will push for Adams all the way until the final whistle. U-M secondary coach LaMar Morgan hasn’t been overly aggressive in his approach, but he is keeping in contact with Adams and continuing to strengthen their relationship,” he wrote for his recruitment updates for The Wolverine. According to him, a reason why this seemed possible is that Morgan had flipped Shamari Earls and Jordan Young from Georgia and Clemson, respectively.

Before committing, the CB paid an official visit to Ann Arbor before South Bend. Unfortunately for Sherrone Moore, he couldn’t make a lasting impression on Khary Adams. Notre Dame, on the other hand, had floored him.

Khary Adams made up his mind after his last visit to Notre Dame

Adams officially visited Notre Dame in June, which is the biggest month in the recruitment side of things in college football. He was being pursued by the best of programs in the sport. Even Oregon weaseled into his favorites at one point. But that final visit to South Bend was what made it all clear for Khary Adams. “Being in that tunnel and taking the field was a moment that stood out and made it feel like home,” he told Athlon Sports.

After Marcus Freeman spoke to the visiting recruits, he had made his decision. “I knew Notre Dame was my school as we were leaving. It was just something special about it,” Adams added more about that impactful visit. Now “locked in” to become a Fighting Irish, Adams is part of the most elite class of DBs in the 2026 cycle, which is hosted by Notre Dame. This department sure will be putting forward a show in the future for the program.

Khary Adams will now be a rival for Michigan fans, now that he is doubling down on his commitment to Notre Dame. He has hauled in 78 tackles, 4 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries in his career so far. All that production is something that Freeman and Mickens will be tapping into. Insiders can be speculating a lot of different scenarios for him, but the elite CB will not be going anywhere apart from South Bend.
