This season has been a wild ride for Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers. They started the season with back-to-back four victories. Sadly, Arkansas broke their streak, and the Vols tasted their first defeat. But Heupel’s guidance helped them to bounce back and they were back in the momentum. However, again, after four wins, the Bulldogs defeated them in the second phase of the season. And they played their last game of the season against Ohio State and ended their season with a 42-17 defeat. That’s not it for Heupel.

Now, the Wide Receiver, Mike Matthews, has decided to add salt to HC’s wound and has entered the transfer portal, leaving everyone in shock. So, where could Matthews land? According to insider Josh Newberg, three programs are hot on his trail. “There were three other teams mainly—of course, everybody in the country would have taken Mike Matthews. But in the end, there were three teams that were really in it for him besides Tennessee: you had Georgia, right? The in-state Bulldogs were the team to beat early on.”

The Bulldogs’ performance has been nothing short of exceptional with 11 wins. And with Smart’s key player, Carson Beck, deciding to enter the NFL draft, he would definitely want to strengthen his offensive line with new talents for the coming season.

Newberg added, “You had the Clemson Tigers, and to be honest with you, back in February and March, I thought early on that Clemson was going to be where he ended up; then you also had the USC Trojans.” With Matthews now hitting the portal, one of those three schools could likely emerge as a favorite. Clemson has also been known for developing talent at wide receiver. While the Trojans have a high-powered offense, that could benefit from Matthews’ skills.

See, the WD did not have a standout season at Tennessee this year; he recorded just 7 receptions for 90 yards and 2 touchdowns, but still, he has plenty of potential and is a five-star recruit. Not just that, the 247Sports Composite ranked him as the No. 6 wide receiver in the 2024 class. The young talent did not leave a chance to generate buzz during spring practice. Unfortunately, he was hampered by a hamstring injury during fall camp, which limited his opportunities throughout the season. As we move forward, let’s discuss if not the Bulldogs, Clemson, or USC, then who?

Sherrone Moore’s Michigan is tough competition

Michigan can be tough competition for the Bulldogs, Clemson, and USC. See, we know they could not perform well this season and collapsed badly. But we cannot ignore that Moore and his staff have done an amazing job when it comes to recruiting this season. The entire country knows the Bryce Underwood story. It is definitely going in history. But wait! That’s not it.

Former Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene also joined them and added more weight to their offensive line. Speaking of more new talent, Michigan has also landed Donaven McCulley, a wide receiver transfer from Indiana. His height and athleticism could be game-changers for the Wolverines as they look to reconsider and solidify their receiving options. With Keene throwing the ball, McCulley could become a key target. Considering that, they might look to have Mike Matthews as a backup. Where is Matthews Landing, according to you?
