“From not seeing probably two games in high school to seeing me on TV every weekend and coming to see me—that means so much to me…I did it for you, man.” Winning the Heisman Trophy isn’t just about stats or hype—it’s about years of hard work, sacrifice, and having the right people in your corner. For Travis Hunter, that person was his father. He backed him from day one, showing up when it mattered and keeping his son grounded through it all. And when Travis uttered those words on stage at the Heisman ceremony, they carried years of weight and a reminder of everything they’d been through. But not everything in their journey has been sunshine.
In late September 2024, Hunter’s father, Travis Hunter Sr., was sentenced to 90 days stemming from a 2023 arrest on gun and dr-g charges. He was released just nine days before the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York—but couldn’t attend it. He did, however, make it to another major milestone. Hunter Sr. was there when Travis Jr. got picked second overall in the NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. That appearance didn’t come easy. He had to get the court’s permission to attend the draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Thankfully, the judge approved it, and the father-son duo shared a long-awaited moment in Green Bay.
Hunter Sr. was also present this past weekend, standing proud as Travis tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend, Leanna Lenee, in Tennessee. But now, as Travis steps into NFL stardom on a $34 million rookie contract, his father is once again physically distant.

Hunter Sr. only got to attend those major events because of court permissions, and he wanted more freedom. So, through his lawyer, he requested that the court reduce his sentence, citing Travis’s career as a major reason. His lawyer, Bradford Cohen, argued that Hunter Sr. could “assist his son with furthering his very promising career with the National Football League.” But the judge denied it, saying it would come off as “special treatment.” Still, that hasn’t stopped Hunter Sr. from supporting his family the best he can.
He’s now fully behind his younger son, Trayvis Hunter, who’s been lighting it up in high school football. Travis Sr. recently posted a video of Trayvis balling out at wide receiver, captioning it: “I just keep them coming, another hunter Trenton is just n they that blood 🦾❤️.”
Trayvis, who plays for Effingham County High School in Georgia, is part of the 2027 recruiting cycle. He’s 5’7″, 140 lbs, rated a 3-star prospect by 247Sports, and already holds offers from seven programs—including Jackson State.

The football dream runs deep in the Hunter household. Hunter Sr. once had his own path lined up to play JUCO ball, but family responsibilities pulled him away. He poured that dream into Travis—and now, he’s doing the same for Trayvis.
For Trayvis’s 17th birthday, his dad posted a highlight video, not of baby pictures or childhood memories, but of him grinding—running drills and putting in work. “Happy 17th birthday to my son Trayvis I love u mane man I love u son enjoy ur day….”
There’s no mistaking the pride in his voice. His younger son is carrying the Hunter name forward, and he’s doing it with swagger. After Trayvis scored during the Overtime 7v7 football camp, Hunter Sr. danced with his kids, saying: “Just Another Hunter.” The message? The legacy isn’t stopping with Travis.
While the senior Hunter keeps building the family football tree, Travis Hunter Jr. has stepped into a whole new chapter—married life.

Travis Hunter ignores Coach Prime’s advice as the Buffs HC leaves a cryptic message
On May 24th, Travis Hunter tied the knot with Leanna Lenee in Athens, Tennessee, officially beginning a new journey. From Lil Wayne to Shedeur Sanders, the wedding was packed with stars. But Coach Prime, Travis’s mentor and college coach, both on and off the field, wasn’t there for the wedding. And that’s when Deion Sanders’ old advice started going viral again on the internet.
The marriage debate between the two goes back a while. In 2022, a video surfaced of Coach Prime giving Travis some off-the-cuff advice. “I think he’s done got married to us and ain’t told nobody,” he joked, with Travis brushing it off: “Nah, not yet.” Sanders had been through a very public and painful divorce from Pilar Sanders. But the Buffs HC kept going, playfully adding, “Let me know…Because I’m gonna do your prenup for you.”
Fast forward to the wedding day, and Coach Prime posted what felt like a very cryptic Instagram story. It read: “God is sending you a protector, a provider, a prayerful partner, a loyal companion, and someone who is emotionally available. He is sending you His very best. Your love story is already written by him.”

Now, maybe it was just a generic post. Or maybe it was Coach Prime sending a subtle message—some kind of premonition, maybe even a warning. Whatever it was, it definitely wasn’t your typical “Congrats, Travis!” vibe.
