Another DUI on the list for the Georgia Bulldogs! This time, it’s cornerback Daniel Harris, the latest member of Kirby Smart’s top-ranked team, who has been arrested for reckless driving.

Police reported that Harris was caught driving at 106 mph. According to an online report, the Miami sophomore was arrested on five misdemeanor charges after being pulled over by Athens-Clarke County police at 10:40 p.m. on Thursday.

The College Football Report also confirmed the news on Twitter: “Georgia CB Daniel Harris has been arrested for reckless driving, and other driving misdemeanors, per @On3sports.” However, Harris was not only charged with reckless driving but also for driving an unregistered car, not wearing a seat belt, illegally tinted windows, and lacking proof of insurance. Just over an hour after his arrest, he was released on a $50 bond.

Well, the arrest happened fewer than 48 hours before Georgia (2-0) hosted Kentucky for its inaugural Southeastern Conference match. Therefore, there is a huge chance Harris is likely to be suspended for Saturday’s game in Lexington, Kentucky. However, Bulldogs’ head coach, Kirby Smart, has provided no updates regarding his suspension; we will have to wait. But rumors swirl that, if Harris can’t play against Kentucky, freshman CB Ellis Robinson will probably see more playing time.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first incident for the Bulldogs—it’s actually the 25th reckless driving charge under head coach Kirby Smart. The team is still haunted by a tragic event 20 months ago, when, on January 15, 2023, shortly after winning their second straight national championship, a crash claimed the lives of recruiting staff member Chandler LeCroy and offensive lineman Devin Willock.

Kirby Smart’s action on Bulldogs’ players to shut down arrests

Coach Kirby Smart has acknowledged that instructing his players for safe driving was not working. That is why, in an attempt to stop these incidents, he stated back in July that the program has attempted to adopt a new strategy. He mentioned, “Let’s start with defensive driving, requiring certain incoming guys to take that course which, as far as I know, nobody in the country has done.” He also mentioned how the team suspended wide receiver Marcus Rosemy last year for speeding and reckless driving, which is quite unusual in CFB.

However, the program also taken another approach, “to fine players in NIL payments by the Classic City Collective.” On this spot, Kirby said, “I actually think the best key is the pocket because you look at what the NFL has done. Their model is defined. And if you asked any of our players what they would rather have, they want their money.”
