Joel Klatt’s take on the top college football quarterbacks for the 2024 year: the five most proficient passers that fans should anticipate this year include Carson Beck of Georgia, Shedeur Sanders of Colorado, Cam Rising of Utah, Quinn Ewers of Texas, along with Dillon Gabriel of Oklahoma. His list has raised questions, particularly with what is arguably the most glaring omission from the Georgia Bulldogs in the shape of star tight end Brock Bowers. It is not hard to see that this change could be a large factor in how Carson Beck will play out this year.

Klatt had very powerful arguments as to why Beck is the superior QB and mentioned the statistics. “It’s obvious that Ohio State should be No. 1, but Carson Beck’s return for Georgia is significant,” Klatt said. Beck is Georgia’s returning starter, and he has been starting for Georgia since his sophomore season and he led the SEC in passing last year. But the big question is: whether he can do this without the likes of Bowers and Lad McConkey. Especially for the Bulldogs, Bowers was a revelation, and taking him out did a lot to the team, so his absence leaves a mighty gap in the offense.
When Bowers is not there, it becomes quite hard for Georgia’s offense. Bowers was more of an influential player who could transform the game whenever he wished. This makes it important for Beck to come up with new strategies to achieve effective leadership for the team. Georgia has talent, but as you have seen, it is not an easy task to replace Bowers’ performance. As far as Klatt put it, he said “Not having Bowers and Lad is a problem. Can they replace those guys? Sure, they have the talent.”

The big question, of course, for Georgia fans is how well Beck and the Bulldogs will adapt. Lack of Bowers is easily a big challenge and how the team will cope will be important.

The challenge of replacing Brock Bowers and what it means for Carson Beck
The upcoming season will challenge Beck and the strength of Georgia’s team, which has been recruiting stronger players around the nation. Obviously, can Beck keep on climbing successfully without his previously hugely important weapon – the star tight end? Only time will tell. So, one of the concerns for Georgia is that they lost Brock Bowers and it will be interesting to see Carson Beck rise to the moment.
Bowers was one of the leading players on the team, due to his absence, Beck will have to shoulder even more of the load. The Bulldogs do have talent, but there is no way to replace a player like Bowers.
